Florence Pugh’s Role Is One of The Most Important Ones In Dune: Part Two!

It is no secret that Florence Pugh will be portraying the role of Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Two. Irulan’s character works as a narrator of the story but is also deeply involved in the story. In the books, every chapter is prefaced by Princess Irulan’s entry as a de facto narrator of the story.

In a recent post on X, Florence Pugh’s statements were recorded about how director Denis Villeneuve approached her for the role of Princess Irulan. Stating that Villeneuve apologized profusely, Pugh revealed that she was just happy to watch the director work on his magnum opus, and it was his dream come true!

“It didn’t matter how big my role was… When I chatted to Denis, he kept apologizing and saying ‘In this one, it’s really not a big part. I won’t be offended [if you say no].’ I was like ‘I don’t care! I just want to come and watch you work. This is a dream.’”

In the books, Princess Irulan is horrified by the idea of Chani (Zendaya’s character) getting impregnated by Paul Atreides. Interfering the lore, Irulan feeds Chani infertility pills, but Chani’s ancient diet allows her to become pregnant. Zendaya’s character finds death during childbirth, which is exactly what Irulan wanted, and thus, is one of the major characters in the Dune franchise despite less screen time.

“In the middle of our s*x scene, the camera broke. No one knows this, but it did. Our camera broke when we were both n*ked and it was not ideal timing.”

She further continued,

“This is the moment to learn…So tell me, what’s wrong with this camera? You just make your moments. I’m like, ‘What’s going on with the shutter here, buddy?’”

Starring in Christopher Nolan’s movie, Pugh has been garnering worldwide fame and continues to take on more challenging roles in the future. With the role of Princess Irulan to her name, Dune: Part Two is set for a release date of 15 March 2024 in theaters across the U.S.
