Tom Cruise’s rant on the set of Mission: Impossible 7 made headlines in 2020. It also sparked debate among his peers. In a leaked audio obtained by The Sun, Cruise appeared to be yelling at his crew members for breaking COVID-19 safety protocols.
Cruise became a trending topic among many celebrities in Hollywood at that time. Many, including George Clooney (who worked with Cruise in Hell’s Club Part 2. Another Night), praised the actor for how seriously he took the pandemic. But some said it was nothing more than just a sinister rant.
Leah Remini Claimed There’s a Sinister Motive Behind Tom Cruise’s Rant
In 2020, after Tom Cruise‘s rant on deadly pandemic guidelines, George Clooney defended him by saying that Cruise “didn’t overreact, it’s a problem [addressing to the Covid pandemic].” Not only Clooney but his former Mission: Impossible co-star Alec Baldwin also went to bat for M:I star. “So he’s pissed off on 1 particular day. “Who f***ing cares?” Baldwin tweeted on X (formerly Twitter).
Another actor, Josh Gad, wrote on his X account, “Tom Cruise is correct here, FYI.” And even Hilarie Burton Morgan added on his X handle, replying to a post by Screen Time, “I’ve never liked him more!”
But actress Leah Remini believed that it was a public stunt. The former Scientologist explained in a lengthy statement to Tony Ortega’s The Underground Bunker, why she thought Cruise’s rant was manipulated for publicity purposes.
“Tom does not care about the families of his crew; this is all for publicity,” Remini claimed. She remarked:
“Tom does not believe in family values. I mean, how anyone is falling for this is just mindblowing. I would bet that Tom had this rant written for him and had his Scientology assistant record and release it,” she claimed. “Hearing a rich actor with enormous power address his crew in this way is a sign of weakness and a deeply troubled person. This is not just a rant of another a****** actor. Tom Cruise pretending that he cares is why a few have called him out.”
But a spokesperson told Yahoo Entertainment that the Church of Scientology strongly quashed her alleged claims.
A Source Claimed Tom Cruise’s Rant Had a Valid Reason
As per The Sun, Cruise’s rant was not an isolated incident. The same outlet also reported that five crew members left Mission: Impossible 7 after the second meltdown of the Hollywood star over COVID-19 restrictions.
But a source claimed to The Sun that the NY native “just can’t take any more after all the lengths they have gone to just to keep filming at all. He’s upset others aren’t taking it as seriously as him. In the end, he’s the one who carries the can.”
It’s understandable because Cruise had a lot on his plate at that time. He was not only acting but also producing the film. And with industry-leading safety measures, he forged ahead with Mission: Impossible 7.
