Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have been long-time collaborators since the 1990 movie, Edward Scissorhands. The actor-director duo has collaborated in 8 films so far and possibly more will happen in the coming days.
Depp being a close friend of Burton prefers to work with the director, perhaps more than any other filmmakers as the actor himself admitted that he would do anything for Burton. Notably, Burton has forged Depp’s career establishing himself as a remarkable actor in Hollywood.
Johnny Depp Would Do Anything For Tim Burton
For Johnny Depp, working with Tim Burton gave him the space to grow as an actor. Understandably, Burton’s characters assigned for Depp consist of at least some level of eccentricity. Also, Depp will clear the schedules for Burton at any given time. “I would do anything [Tim Burton] wanted me to. You know, have sex with an aardvark. I would do it,” Depp once said (via, Complex). In an appearance on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, Depp further stated that Burton has provided the direction of his career like the actor wanted.
“I was misrepresented really I mean you know as far as I was concerned I was just an actor doing a job. Well, I mean I don’t know that anyone can. It’s pretty weird, yeah, you know, when you go from like not being able to pay your rent and then suddenly you know all that kind of bizarre hoopla.”
Certainly, Burton and Depp’s long collaboration over three decades had created the road for Depp to bring out his acting prowess. “I wanted, you know, I wanted the road that I wanted you know? I didn’t want uh I didn’t want to become anyone’s product,” Depp said of his early career. The duo has remained friends and possibly more collaboration will be on the table.
Tim Burton’s Unique Professional Bond With Johnny Depp
The actor-director duo has been collaborating for that long because it works, not just for the comfortable aura on the set. Speaking with Ross, Burton revealed that Depp is always open to trying everything.
“I think it’s a good mix. No, I think I always go to him if I feel the parts right and think he’d like it, and uh, you know, also, he’s you know, he’s willing to try anything and he also doesn’t like looking at himself. I don’t, he’s never seen a movie that we’ve done together,” Burton said.
For Depp, he just likes to detach himself from the character he plays after the completion of the project. “I just prefer to walk away with the experience of the process and have you know, to just to have that and then and then that’s plenty,” Depp revealed. The duo has produced some remarkable characters including Edward Scissorhands and the duo has been hailed by many fans and critics over the years.
