However, he refrained from discussing the intricate details of maintaining his physique when asked if he was photoshopped for the movie. During an interview with Access Hollywood, the actor jokingly explained that his abs in the movie were created through a program by James Cameron. He said,

Yes. It’s actually a program that James Cameron has come up with, it’s called Ab-atar. And you just put on this jumpsuit and there’s like six ping pong balls and then when you do scenes you suddenly magically have muscles.

The interviewer continued to pry about the subject matter, even asking the actor if he would show off his abs during the interview. Gosling, however, kept up with his deadpan humor, saying, “I would never lie to you… I don’t have any ab muscles.”

However, the actor had to follow a diet and workout plan to get in shape for the movie. As per Men’s Journal, the Barbie star cut down on sugar and stuck to a diet that included bananas and protein shakes for the 2011 film. He also worked out five days a week to prepare for the role.

Ryan Gosling Likened His Abs to Pets

Hollywood star Ryan Gosling has continued to work on himself, and the actor once again dedicated himself to physical transformation to portray Ken in Barbie. In an interview with Variety, he reflected on his workout routine and diet to prepare for the role.

The Gray Man star worked out four hours a day, took several dance classes, and restricted his diet to almost nothing. “It was basically nothing,” he said before adding, “It was just, like, coffee.”

Because they don’t do anything useful. But you have to feed them and take care of them. Otherwise, they’ll go away,” he further noted. However, it has certainly not stopped him from approaching such transformations for his on-screen roles.
