Neve Campbell has already announced her exit from the Scream franchise last year citing negotiation issues. Given that the franchise has been a hit at the box office, requesting fair compensation is surely what she deserved. However, recent reports suggest that she could be convinced to return given that the franchise is considering exploring the arc ahead with original actors.
She has portrayed the role of iconic character, Sidney Prescott alongside alongside original stars David Arquette and Courteney Cox. While she decided not to move forward with the franchise, she might change her decision amid the early plans to create Scream 7.
Neve Campbell Revealed Her Reason Behind Departing the Scream Franchise
Neve Campbell was last seen reprising her Sidney Prescott’s role in the fifth installment of the Scream franchise. However, she clarified that she won’t be returning to the next installment due to salary disagreements. She clarified that what she was being offered did not equate to the value she brought to the franchise for 25 years.
She shared to PEOPLE,
“And as a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued.”
She argued that her salary would have been quite different had she been a man.
“I honestly don’t believe that if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man,” she said, adding, “And in my soul, I just couldn’t do that. I couldn’t walk on set feeling that—feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that.”
It became clear that she had no plans to settle for less for the franchise which was unwilling to spend bucks on her to give what she deserved. However, reports suggest that the actress might make a comeback in the upcoming installment.
Neve Campbell Might Return in the Scream 7 Franchise
After the exit of Scream 6 stars Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, the filmmakers are reportedly exploring the creative aspect in a different way. Given that the actresses played sisters in the movie, sources told Variety that the Wednesday star might be able to return for a cameo appearance. Meanwhile, another source mentioned that the duo never planned to feature in another sequel as they signed a two-movie deal which was completed when they starred in Scream 5 and Scream 6.
Now with both the lead stars gone, the filmmakers are thinking of bringing back the original characters. It is reported that producers are eyeing for her Neve Campbell to make a return in the seventh installment. Even franchise creator, Kevin Williamson in an appearance on the Happy Horror Time podcast expressed his thoughts on Campbell’s return stating,
“All I can say is, ‘Pay her the money’,” he said. “Yes, you heard it, everyone. That’s what I would do. I would give her that.”
Even Courteney Cox and Patrick Dempsey are potential candidates to bring the franchise forward. While reports did mention considering the original actors for the seventh installment, no negotiations have been done so far. The sixth slasher movie, Scream 6 is available on Paramount Plus.
