After all the trials and misses, Marvel Cinematic Universe might finally be heading in the right direction, bringing back Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool to the big screen with one of the most anticipated Marvel releases since Avengers: Endgame.
Wolverine’s return to the MCU means a lot, not only for the franchise but for Hugh Jackman as well. Everything is going how it actually should. But years back, the Australian star had prepared a contingency plan if things wouldn’t go as he wanted them to, with none other than Christian Bale.
Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman developed a rapport while working on the sets of The Prestige
Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman go way back. The two actors starred together in Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige. The 2006 sci-fi, thriller flick, based on Christopher Priest’s novel of the same name, was a major hit amongst the people.
The movie made over $100 million at the box office on a budget of just $40 million. And this success was in no small part down to the rapport between Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. The Prestige wouldn’t have been the same without the magic their dynamics wove around the story.
Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman made a failsafe plan for their careers
The inherent chemistry between the American Psycho star and the Australian was there for everyone to see, not only on the screen but also off it. After wrapping up the shooting, the duo went on Unscripted for a tell-all interview.
Amongst everything they discussed amongst themselves on the table, one question led to an interesting answer – their future prospects if their careers ever failed to take off and achieve the heights that they wanted them to (and the heights they actually scaled).
A WWF tour for the ages
One of the questions that came the duo’s way on Unscripted was ‘Who would win in the ultimate showdown, Wolverine or Batman?’ The Machinist star had quite the answer, saying,
“How about we leave it to 15 years down the track, when both of our careers are nothing. We’re doing dinner theatre somewhere. Then we’ll come back and revive a Batman v. Wolverine scenario.” (Instagram)
The Greatest Showman star had something better in store though. He continued,
“No even better. If our careers are in the toilet, let’s actually just fight each other. It’s like we’ll set it up. We’ll go on a WWF tour. I’ll go out in Wolverine gear, you go out in Batman gear.”
That would have been quite the tour though. Fans would have gone crazy. Alas! They aren’t as bad as they thought they would be.
