Considering that the first Top Gun movie, starring Tom Cruise was one of his favorite movies as a teenager at the time, there was no way Jon Hamm was going to let any opportunity slide to star in its sequel. Widely known for his role as Don Draper in Mad Men, the actor first came across the Mission: Impossible star at Jimmy Kimmel’s Super Bowl party.

Not long after that, the Baby Driver actor was soon offered the dream opportunity to star alongside his teenage role model in the sequel to Top Gun and Jon Hamm was in no mood to miss this opportunity.

Jon Hamm was ready to fire his agent if he failed to secure the Top Gun: Maverick offer

Following Jon Hamm’s excitement to star alongside Tom Cruise in the sequel to one of his favorite movies, the actor was ready to go to extreme measures for the role. While speaking on The Howard Stern Show, Hamm jokingly revealed that after he got the offer to star in Top Gun 2, he didn’t care about what role he was assigned. The Mad Men star wasn’t even interested in any terms and conditions and even went as far as to threaten to fire his entire team of agents if the offer gets retracted. He explained the situation by stating,

“I’m driving down the road and my phone rings. It’s my agent, and he goes, ‘Hey, they’re coming at you for – they want you to do a part in the Top Gun sequel.’ And I was like, ‘Well, then the answer is yes.’ Are you crazy? Yes. ‘Well, we don’t know. The money, and this and that.’ And I was like, ‘No, no, no, no, no. The answer is yes… If this goes away, you’re all fired.”

Although the actor might have been a little too excited about the role, however, the Baby Driver actor didn’t regret his choice. As he went to experience a great time and praised Cruise for his dedication toward his roles.

Jon Hamm was left in awe after witnessing Tom Cruise’s dedication in Top Gun: Maverick

Working alongside the biggest movie star in Hollywood was a dream come true for the Mad Men actor. Following his experience with Cruise, Jon Hamm went on to commend the Mission: Impossible star for the dedication and energy he brings to his roles. He commended Cruise by stating,

“It’s really impressive. It’s a wonderful energy to be around. His enthusiasm is infectious. He clearly loves what he does for a living. And he clearly feels so connected to this particular story.”
