Kevin Costner has been a part of several iconic and memorable projects throughout his Hollywood career. The actor is most famously known for portraying the role of Frank Farmer in the 1992 film, The Bodyguard.
Starring alongside the actor was Whitney Houston in the role of Rachel Marron. Together, they had such chemistry on-screen that fans speculated that they had something going on in real life too. And to add fuel to the fire, Kevin Costner had insisted Houston take the role or else he wouldn’t do the movie either!
Kevin Costner Gave The Perfect Eulogy For Whitney Houston
The speculated love never came to blossom since Costner had been married to Cindy Costner till 1998 and then to Christine Baumgartner in 2004. Although they didn’t take the next step, Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston remained the best of friends till the late actress’ death in 2012.
During her funeral, Costner gave a wonderful eulogy to the late actress. Choosing not to speak the words publicly, it was pretty evident from his speech that the Yellowstone actor had a more emotional and meaningful bond than just friendship with Whitney Houston. As reported by the New York Post, the actor talked about the Whitney Houston he knew.
“The Whitney I knew, despite her success and worldwide fame, still wondered: Am I good enough? Am I pretty enough? Will they like me? It was the burden that made her great . . .You weren’t just pretty — you were as beautiful as a woman could be. And people didn’t just like you, Whitney — they loved you.”
After his emotional and heart-wrenching eulogy, Kevin Costner added more fuel to the fire when he publicly reported in 2012 that Whitney Houston was his “one true love”.
Kevin Costner Said Whitney Houston Was His “One True Love”
Shortly after Houston’s death, Kevin Costner talked about her in an interview with CNN (via Nicki Swift) in 2012. During that interview, the actor revealed that he had been infatuated with the actress and even called her his one true love!
“She was my one true love,”
The actor also revealed an incident on the sets of the 1992 movie when Whitney Houston was worried that she wasn’t the right person for the role. Houston spoke to Entertainment Tonight (via YouTube) back in 1992 to reveal what Kevin Costner did for her behind-the-scene of that movie.
“If you don’t do this movie, I won’t do this movie.”
Kevin Costner ended his eulogy by saying that Whitney Houston had been the most beautiful woman on Earth and she had always been good enough. During his final words to his one true love, Costner assured Whitney Houston for one last time that she would indeed be good enough.
“So off you go, Whitney, off you go . . . escorted by an army of angels to your Heavenly Father. And when you sing before Him, don’t you worry — you’ll be good enough.”
Whether they did or didn’t have a romantic relationship will stay unclear forever. Costner and the world can find solace in the fact that a person like Whitney Houston once existed in this world and made it a better place for everybody.
