As he recollects in an interview with The Talks. his mother was a checker at a grocery store and his father was a construction worker who worked in the mines. Pratt’s family struggled with money problems and barely managed to live a decent livelihood. The family had so little money and the actor had an encounter with someone over comic books and whether he read them.

The price of a comic book at the time was 3 bucks and Pratt couldn’t even afford that. To him, that was an expensive amount. From all these significant struggles and hardships growing up, the actor understood the value of money and what it takes to earn even a fraction of it. Pratt said,

My mom is a checker at a grocery store called Safeway. My dad is dead, but he was a construction guy. He worked hard, he was a worker. Worked in the mines and stuff. It’s a good place to come from. You know the value of money.

I remember as a kid we had so little money that if someone asked me if I read comic books, I’d be like, “No! Comic books are expensive.” And they’d be like, “What do you mean? They are three bucks.” But if you don’t have three bucks then that is expensive! I know what it is like to not ask for anything.

The actor understands the hard life and has worked hard to make it better. His hard work and faith in himself have finally paid off. From being unable to buy a comic book to being one of today’s A-list stars in Hollywood, Pratt’s journey is amazing and inspiring.

The character was intriguing, but the director and the producer, so Timur [Bekmambetov] and the producer, Chuck Rovan, who did Oppenheimer, it was the conversations with them about where they wanted to take the character of Maddox. It’s just, like, I’m so happy to be working with such lovely people. I feel very lucky… He’s (Pratt) such a goofball with a very high intelligence.
