Pratt’s humility and relatability stem from his humble beginnings where he couldn’t afford everything he wanted. His family had very little money at the time and he couldn’t even buy comic books. This made him understand the value of money and the struggle to earn even a buck in real life.

Chris Pratt has had his own struggles when he started in the industry. The actor was always perceived as the funny guy from Parks and Recreation and he had to work hard to prove that he was more than just the comedic relief. Pratt had far greater struggles during his early years at home.
As he recollects in an interview with The Talks. his mother was a checker at a grocery store and his father was a construction worker who worked in the mines. Pratt’s family struggled with money problems and barely managed to live a decent livelihood. The family had so little money and the actor had an encounter with someone over comic books and whether he read them.
The price of a comic book at the time was 3 bucks and Pratt couldn’t even afford that. To him, that was an expensive amount. From all these significant struggles and hardships growing up, the actor understood the value of money and what it takes to earn even a fraction of it. Pratt said,
My mom is a checker at a grocery store called Safeway. My dad is dead, but he was a construction guy. He worked hard, he was a worker. Worked in the mines and stuff. It’s a good place to come from. You know the value of money.
I remember as a kid we had so little money that if someone asked me if I read comic books, I’d be like, “No! Comic books are expensive.” And they’d be like, “What do you mean? They are three bucks.” But if you don’t have three bucks then that is expensive! I know what it is like to not ask for anything.
The actor understands the hard life and has worked hard to make it better. His hard work and faith in himself have finally paid off. From being unable to buy a comic book to being one of today’s A-list stars in Hollywood, Pratt’s journey is amazing and inspiring.

Chris Pratt is teaming up for the first time with Rebecca Ferguson for the sci-fi thriller Mercy. Pratt will play a detective who has been wrongly accused of a crime and Ferguson will play Maddox, an AI judge. In a recent interview with Collider, the actress revealed that he was drawn to the character, particularly with how Maddox’s arc evolves in the story.
Ferguson had nothing but great words to say about Pratt, calling him the ‘loveliest, kindest, and very smart human being’. The actress is grateful to be working with such talented and lovely people around her. Ferguson said,
The character was intriguing, but the director and the producer, so Timur [Bekmambetov] and the producer, Chuck Rovan, who did Oppenheimer, it was the conversations with them about where they wanted to take the character of Maddox. It’s just, like, I’m so happy to be working with such lovely people. I feel very lucky… He’s (Pratt) such a goofball with a very high intelligence.
The two actors will certainly elevate the intriguing narrative of the film with their acting prowess. In addition to Pratt and Ferguson, Mercy will also star Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Rafi Gavron, Chris Sullivan, Kenneth Choi, and Kylie Rogers. The film will be directed by Timur Bekmambetov and hit theatres on August 15, 2025.
