Rebecca Ferguson is currently the hottest name in the film industry as her sci-fi film starrer, Dune: Part Two, has been a smash-hit blockbuster at the box office. The film had been heavily anticipated by the fans for a long time, and it met the hype that the sequel had created. However, it looks like the actress is hot on her heels as she has already set eyes on her next big feature.
The Doctor Sleep actress is all set to star alongside Chris Pratt in yet another sci-fi film titled Mercy. However, it appears that fans are not ecstatic at all about this sci-fi feature as fans already have a nightmare response to the announcement as they found it a copy of one of Tom Cruise’s films.
Rebecca Ferguson and Chris Pratt’s Upcoming Sci-Fi Feature Copies Tom Cruise’s 2002 Sci-fi Film
As per reports from Deadline, Rebecca Ferguson has already set her eyes on her next big film in the sci-fi genre as she has signed on to the film titled Mercy starring alongside Chris Pratt. The film will be brought to life by Amazon MGM Studios and it will be directed by the Russian director Timur Bekmambetov, who is renowned for his works like Night Watch and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter; the script of the film will be penned by Marco van Belle.
Big names are already associated with the project, creating hype and buzz among the fans. However, all the hype surrounding Rebecca Ferguson’s upcoming film died when the plot of the film was shared. The film will take place in the distant future, where Chris Pratt will portray the role of a detective who is accused of a crime and forced to prove his innocence; Ferguson’s role is yet to be revealed.
The plot of the film is similar to Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi film Minority Report, released in 2002, that too takes place in the distant future and revolves around Tom Cruise’s John Anderton, a PreCrime officer who could predict crimes before they take place in real life. However, trouble follows him as he is accused of a crime that he did not commit.
Since Mercy follows a similar plotline, it can be expected that Rebecca Ferguson will portray a role similar to Anderton’s estranged Lara Anderton, portrayed by Kathryn Morris, or his colleague Agatha, portrayed by Samantha Morton. Nevertheless, fans are not delighted with the news.
Fans Are Furious With Mercy as They Suffocate The Film with Hate on Social Media
Even though the cast of Mercy has a dedicated fan base and over the years, their work has established them as some of the most reputed and entertaining stars, who will consistently give a mesmerizing performance in their roles that will leave an impeccable mark in the memories of the viewers. However, the fans could not accept the fact that their upcoming film, Mercy, is an original film.
The fans of the 2002 film did not enjoy the announcement as they called the upcoming film Minority Report 2 and brought a sea of backlash with them on social media.
I feel like we’ve seen this movie a million times before.

Nevertheless, fans should not already show so much backlash to Rebecca Ferguson and Chris Pratt’s starrer because even though the plot looks similar to Minority Report, it can be different and equally entertaining.
Mercy is yet to announce an official release date for a wide theatrical release.
