Keira Knightley stars as Sabina Spielrein in the film, A Dangerous Method which revolves around how the relationship between Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender) and Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen) gave birth to psychoanalysis.

Spielrein in the film has an affair with Jung which is how the spanky scene came into existence. However, the actress gave strict instructions to the X-Men star not to touch her while filming.

At the UK premiere of the film at the London Film Festival, she stated,

“I actually said to him before we shot the spanking scenes, ‘If you touch me I will kill you’ and he did remind me that I was tied to a bed at the time and really I shouldn’t be making any threats.”

While she also found her scenes not easy, she also talked about doing her best for the role.

The Pride & Prejudice star further talked about pushing herself if her role demands much depth. She opened up about not wanting to do a similar role that she did before, which is one of the reasons she has shown a dynamic range in her filmography.

“It’s important to push yourself. I don’t want to do the same thing again and again and again and I don’t think people really want to watch that, and sometimes I’m going to fall flat on my face and I think I have done that, and will continue to do that but hopefully there will be some gems in there that are really interesting as well.”

She is widely praised even by Fassbender for pulling off such a dramatic role in the 2011 film. While he mentioned that she often gets “underrated as an actress,” he knows that she has done extremely well in her portrayal.

“It’s a very difficult role for a woman and I never had any doubt that she could handle it terrifically and she certainly does.”

While the film garnered negative reviews, the actors’ performance was widely praised with the movie grossing $24 million worldwide.
