The lovable Eddie Munson of Stranger Things, Joseph Quinn, has finally opened up about his Marvel debut in The Fantastic Four. Quinn plays Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch in the film alongside Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm. Quinn joked about going full Method for the preparation of his role in the film.
Joseph Quinn was among the celebrity guests of the FACTS Comic-Con held in Belgium on April 6th. Quinn also shared his excitement about playing the superhero and added that director Matt Shakman has a great vision for the project.
Joseph Quinn Jokes That He Is Willing To Go Method For His Role
Joseph Quinn will begin filming his role as Human Torch in the MCU film, The Fantastic Four, later this year. Quinn’s one-word reaction on Instagram to his casting news earlier became a talk among Marvel fandom, who felt the response was quite underwhelming (via @josephquinn). However, he has used more than a few words in sharing his excitement for the role during his appearance at the FACTS Comic-Con.
At the convention, Quinn was asked by a fan about his casting in The Fantastic Four. The Stranger Things actor shared that it was an easy decision to become part of the cast. He shared that the film has a great group under the visionary director Matt Shakman. He added that he had already spoken to the director about his role. Quinn shared (via @F4Update):
“I’m really excited! I still can’t believe it, it’s crazy. We have a great group. When I spoke to Matt, the director, he had a brilliant vision for this, and the group we have, it was an easy decision. I definitely wanted to be a part of it.”
When another fan asked the actor if he was doing anything specifically to prepare for the role, Quinn had a rather witty reply. He jokingly told the fan that he would be setting himself on fire every day to get into the character. He shared, “I’ll be setting myself on fire for real. Every day. Yeah… gotta feel it, you know?”.

Joseph Quinn’s iteration follows Chris Evans‘ version in the 2005 Fantastic Four film and Michael B. Jordan‘s role in the 2015 reboot. After the initial casting announcement of the lead actors, the film has also cast Ozark fame Julia Garner as the Shalla-Bal version of Silver Surfer (via Deadline). There have been no other updates about other characters, but rumors suggest that Galactus will be the villain in the film.
Fans Find Joseph Quinn’s Comment Funny, Compare Him To Jared Leto
Fans have some wild reactions to Joseph Quinn’s joke that he would set himself on fire for the preparation of his role. One fan shared that it was something that Jared Leto would do for a role. Leto infamously went full Method for his role as Joker in Suicide Squad and the experience was a nightmare for his fellow cast members. Another user shared a meme appreciating Quinn’s “dedication” to the role.
One fan joked that it was Method acting that they would like to see. Several comments pointed out the looks and physicality of the actor, sharing that the boy was already on fire. Besides the Marvel role, Quinn has plenty of projects lined up for the year. He will star alongside Black Panther actress Lupita Nyong’o in the upcoming prequel film, A Quiet Place: Day One. He will also collaborate with his Marvel co-star Pedro Pascal in Ridley Scott‘s Gladiator 2, which stars Paul Mescal in the lead. Quinn is also cast in Alex Garland’s next A24 film after Civil War, a war film titled Warfare.
The Fantastic Four will be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
