We all know Galactus as one of the most menacing and terrifying beings in the Marvel Universe. Known as the ‘Devourer of Worlds’, he is enormously powerful and towers over entire galaxies, among other things. Who would be the ideal choice for the role if it were to appear on screen in the upcoming The Fantastic Four reboot?
Well, we all know and admire Javier Bardem’s spellbinding performances as twisted villains, don’t we? And even a new rumor suggests that the actor (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall, Biutiful) might take on the role of the world-eating villain Galactus in the awaited superhero movie.
The tip came from industry insider Jeff Sneider, who claimed that the same source who told him about Pedro Pascal’s role in the film also informed him of Bardem’s consideration for the part of the iconic, larger-than-life villain. Sneider said that while the Skyfall star might not be in the running due to a scheduling conflict with Apple and Brad Pitt’s F1 film directed by Joseph Kosinski, he is still in the race.
Javier Bardem Is Said To Be In The Running To Play Galactus In The Fantastic Four
Marvel’s The Fantastic Four, is soon to be released next year. There have been circulating rumors regarding the film’s cast for a while now. We recently learned of the rescheduling of the release date and the main cast. Javier Bardem is the studio’s top choice to play Galactus in The Fantastic Four, according to The InSneider’s Jeff Sneider. He claimed that the studio is leaning toward casting Oscar winner Javier Bardem as the planet-devouring Galactus in the Fantastic Four’s reboot.
If the casting goes forward, this will be significant for two reasons. First of all, Galactus is one of the most well-known antagonists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has long been calling for a faithful big-screen debut alongside the best antagonists in the series. For another, Bardem would be a valuable and well-cast addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After all, Bardem’s reputation as playing a cold-blooded and terrifying mass murderer is cemented by his critically acclaimed portrayal of Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men. And let us not forget about his performance as one of the most terrifying James Bond villains.
How Would Galactus Fit Into Marvel’s upcoming The Fantastic Four Movie?
Among the scariest villains to come out of Marvel Comics, Galactus is feared for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is his enormous size. He feeds on planets whose horrible destiny is predetermined by his herald, the Silver Surfer. But what scares us the most about this villain is how emotionless and silent he is as he goes about his gloomy cosmic business—a being beyond comprehension and reason.
Galactus is not a typical MCU villain—he is neither likable nor rational—so if he showed up in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four, he would be a departure from the norm.
With Galactus’ arrival, the MCU would also be reviving a villain for the first time since it debuted in a comic book movie. He made his big-screen debut in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), released just a year before Iron Man. That being said, one of the most criticized aspects of the film was his portrayal as a toothy space cloud. This is why, as The Fantastic Four’s arch-villain, he needs to be given due respect as a more faithful version of the world eater, perhaps portrayed by Javier Bardem.
When it comes to playing unforgettable villains, Bardem never disappoints. Just think back to his portrayal of Raoul Silva in Skyfall—a charismatic and spine-chilling character who made us all feel equally scared and intrigued. Now think of him taking on the role of Galactus, a villain who devours entire planets for sustenance. The thought alone sends shivers down our spines!
The Fantastic Four will arrive in theaters on July 25, 2025.
