John Krasinski, thanks to his long stint as cool office guy Jim Halpert in the popular sitcom The Office, has ensured he’d forever remain a crush of millions of fans, and not just receptionist Pam Beesly.

It’s been more than a decade since he left his desk at the Scranton branch and yet fans gush over his famous trademark look at the camera.

However, it appears the 43-year-old’s cool persona took a big hit in his own household; not because of the decline in popularity of The Office or any of his other projects, but rather because of the movie Mary Poppins Returns.

How Emily Blunt’s Movie Dented John Krasinski’s Image in His House

John Krasinski has been married to Emily Blunt since 2010 and the popular couple share two daughters. Since The Office star is American and the Oppenheimer actress is British, they publicly joke about how there’s a little family tussle about which accent their kids would pick up as they get older.

It seems there’s also a competition between the two superstars about emerging as the coolest parent in the house. In that regard, Krasinski, in a 2016 interview with Stephen Colbert, suggested he’s fighting the losing battle after his wife bagged a role in the movie Mary Poppins Returns. He said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert:

“I just lost the battle of a lifetime because my wife is about to play Mary Poppins. Before you cheer, picture the demise of my cool factor in my house. I’ll never be cool again.”

Blunt got the lead part of Mary Poppins in the 2018 movie which also featured Meryl Streep. Mary is one of the most popular characters in children’s books thanks to her caring persona and magical powers.

Akin to how Margot Robbie is getting all the love for portraying the famous doll Barbie in the movie Barbie, the British actress also became an instant favorite of many children by bringing back the famous character to the big screen, after the 1964 movie.

What Emily Blunt Said About Her Movie That Made John Krasinski Less Cool in His House

The English nanny with magical powers from children’s books by P.L. Travers has also become an important character in Hollywood. Much before Blunt, Julie Andrews played the role of Mary Poppins in 1964. Legendary Dick Van Dyke played a key role in the first and also made a special cameo appearance in the Blunt-led Disney fantasy movie.

However, during a light-hearted discussion with Colbert in 2018, The Devil Wears Prada star made interesting comments about Mary Poppins.

“I always thought Mary Poppins seemed a little sinister to me,” Colbert remarked on his show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with Blunt replying, “Well, I think she’s creepy.”

The 40-year-old was quick to add that she loved doing the awesome movie. The box office performance of a $349.5 million worldwide collection also suggested that fans found the fantasy movie and its main character, Mary Poppins, awesome.
