Johnny Depp has a way with everyone: be it his enormous worldwide fandom or his co-stars from his movies. In fact, his off-screen persona is way cooler than his on-screen performances — even in films like Pirates of the Caribbean and similar films — something that has ended up making his co-stars insecure at some point in time.
That’s what happened with Gwyneth Paltrow when she first met Depp. As per the Iron Man actress, Johnny Depp felt so tremendously cool to her that she felt like a ‘total nerdy mom’ in front of him during their first meeting!
Gwyneth Paltrow Was Completely Taken Aback by Johnny Depp When They First Met
Appearing on The Ellen Show to promote their film together Mortdecai, Gwyneth Paltrow and Johnny Depp shared a lot of things: Like how they couldn’t control their laughter themselves while shooting because of the hilariousity of the film.
During this, Paltrow also shared her first experience of meeting Depp. Recalling the situation, she said:
“I remember meeting Johnny [Depp]. I was invited to some type of aftershow thing in London. And it was the first time we really hung out. Maybe four or five years ago? And I went in, and I thought I was like sort of cool — until I met him.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor has such an enormous influence on the Marvel actress that she couldn’t help but overflow with praise for her co-star.
“He was like, so cool and rolling cigarettes and stuff and I was like, ‘Wow, I’m a total nerdy mom.’ And then he was like [rolling cigarettes]. And I was like, ‘Wow, you can roll a cigarette like that.'”
Yet while she was immensely impressed by him, Gwyneth Paltrow also found a few things about Depp being so perfect annoying.
Johnny Depp Is Annoyingly Perfect To Gwyneth Paltrow
Continuing in the interview, Gwyneth Paltrow was asked to share one thing about Johnny Depp that drove her crazy while working together. To this, the Iron Man actress said:
“He’s sort of perfect. I mean, he’s pretty amazing. [But] You know, how, like, your alarm clock might go off and it might say, ‘Oh, it’s 8:00. I need to get up and go to work.’ I think when Johnny’s goes off, he’s like, ‘Oh, I need to sleep for six more hours.’ [Laughs] He’s just so different. He’s too cool to follow a regular 24-hour schedule like we do.”
To this, Depp responded:
“I mean, my on-time is just slightly late. That’s all.”
Turns out that although he is cool, one will be required to have enormous patience while working with Johnny Depp!
