The first and original Dune live-action movie from 1984, based on Frank Herbert’s novel series of the same name, may not have been as perfect of an adaptation as Denis Villeneuve’s, however, Kyle MacLachlan’s performance as Paul Atreides in it was nothing short of epic. This was perhaps because of his nerdiness and ever-lasting love for the superhit science fiction book series.

That being said, MacLachlan obviously had some advice for Timothée Chalamet as well, when he heard that the younger Hollywood heartthrob would be the one replacing him in the iconic role for Villeneueve’s reboot of the saga. As for his thoughts on the Canadian filmmaker? Well, even the 65-year-old MacLachlan couldn’t doubt the 56-year-old director’s talent on the matter!

Kyle MacLachlan Had One Advice For Timothée Chalamet Replacing Him

Kyle MacLachlan may not have seen his own movie from the early 1980s based on Frank Herbert‘s widely celebrated sci-fi lore succeed as much as he wanted it to, but he definitely wished for a different turn of events for the reboot film series that came nearly four decades after his.

This was evident from how he had a piece of some golden advice to share with Timothée Chalamet, i.e. the actor replacing him in the role of Atreides for this new remake film series. And even as he said it jokingly, his advice most certainly seems to have worked out just finely.

During an appearance on BuzzFeed News’ Twitter morning show AM to DM back in 2019, MacLachlan let out the same while expressing his views on the making of a reboot. Joking about the popular spice from Herbert’s lore, he said:

“Go easy on the spice.”

For what it is worth, this advice actually came from someone more than just well-versed with the saga, as MacLachlan said:

“I’m kind of a nerd about the book. I read it when I was 15 for the first time. I read it every year. I really know the book very well.”

Impressed yet? Well, the die-hard bookworms who have consumed the verses of the novel series more than MacLachlan may not be amused, but we most certainly are. That being said, MacLachlan also had quite a bit to say about Denis Villeneuve taming this new reboot saga as well.

During the same interview, MacLachlan also shared some golden words for Villeneuve for helming the movie series. Initially, he shared his extensive knowledge of the books and explained how “there are three sections you can break that into three movies and still have a lot left over.”

That being said, he further emphasized what a tough job it was to bring the books to live-action, wishing the Canadian director luck with the same.

“It’s a challenging piece of material to try to bring to the screen, so I wish him luck with that.” MacLachlan said.

However, after acknowledging that it wouldn’t be an easy task for him to tackle that bizarre creature in a live-action adaptation, MacLachlan also let out how he believed Villeneuve could do an epic job nonetheless, saying:

“If anyone can do it, he’ll do a great job. He’s a great filmmaker.”

Well, that one’s for sure, considering the blockbuster masterpieces of work that Denis Villeneuve eventually brought to the screens through his version of Frank Herbert’s saga!
