Ryan Reynolds has openly talked about his struggles with mental health and anxiety. The Deadpool star has claimed that he has faced situations and moments in his life where he felt out of control that challenged his state of mind. In a 2022 interview with CBS News, he said,

“Yeah, I’ve had anxiety my whole life really. And you know, I feel like I have two parts of my personality, that one takes over when that happens. When I would go out on, like, Letterman, back in the day, I was nervous. But I remember I’d be standing backstage before the curtain would open, and I would think to myself, ‘I’m gonna die. I’m literally gonna die here. The curtain’s gonna open and I’m just gonna be, I’m just gonna be a symphony of vomit,’ just, like, something horrible’s gonna happen!

But as soon as that curtain opens – and this happens in my work a lot too – it’s like this little guy takes over. And he’s like, ‘I got this. You’re cool.’  I feel, like, my heart rate drop, and my breathing calm, and I just sort of go out and I’m this different person. And I leave that interview going, ‘God, I’d love to be that guy!'”

In a recent event, he told Page Six about the rituals he undergoes to maintain his sanity and keep himself normal and at peace. He said,

“I certainly have my own little rituals and those kinds of things that help me stay grounded and keep my mind from spinning out of control. Sometimes I’m really good at it, sometimes I’m not.”

He revealed that meditation helped him overcome a significant amount of his struggles with anxiety. It is very inspiring to see such a celebrated actor open up about his struggles which makes him a relatable guy and a reminder that he is a person just like any other.

Ryan Reynolds recently attended the Bring Change to Mind Revels & Revelations 11 event in New York City. He talked about how he and his wife Blake Lively have been teaching their children the importance of self-awareness and letting them know what they do and who they are outside of being their parents. He told People,

“For me, the best time of my day is walking them to school and walking them back. I think as parents, we are so much better equipped to handle the rigors of childhood through our kids now than when I was a kid. It’s just totally different now. People are much more self-aware. And that’s the thing we sort of hang our hat on the most is self-awareness with our kids. Not be happy, not be anything, just be self-aware and welcome everything in.”

Reynolds is returning as Deadpool for Deadpool 3 alongside Hugh Jackman which will release in theatres on May 3, 2024. He will also star in John Krasinski’s IF which will release in theaters on May 24, 2024.
