Sex/Life is one of the most famous series on Netflix right now. It shows the story of Billie, a suburban housewife, and mother of two, facing a midlife crisis. Played by Sarah Shahi, Billie is extremely conflicted between her comfortable but monotonous life with her family and the memories of her wild past life with her ex-boyfriend Brad.

From the very NSFW scenes and genetically gifted actors, it had audiences excited for the second season. Sadly, the second season did not live up to the expectations set by the first season. The first season aired in 2021, and the second (and final) season was recently aired in 2023.

Sarah Shahi Speaks Up Against Netflix

The leading lady of Sex/Life Sarah Shahi has recently expressed her disappointment with Netflix and the makers of the show. The Black Adam actress recently made an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast and voiced her issues out loud.

The actress revealed on the podcast that she felt the second installment of the viral series was more “gimmicky” than the first, partly due to a change in attitude from the makers. She also admitted that she struggled with the material for the show, and wasn’t entirely on board with the direction of the show itself.

“I definitely did not have the support that I did in the first season from the people involved in the show,” Shahi said during the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast. “It became a much different thing for me — and I’m not afraid to say that.”

Shahi added, “That’s part of what I do. I’m not always going to get along or agree with a filmmaker. I’m not always going to like what I have to do or say. But that’s my job, to make it believable.”

The actress was also disappointed about the fact that she didn’t get enough screen time with co-star Adam Demos, who she called a “brilliant scene partner”. She had hoped for them to have more scenes together, as Billie and Brad end up together at the end of the first season of Sex/Life.

The writing has been on the wall for a while now, especially since Shahi got signed for a new ABC pilot, Judgement, which has apparently been in the talks for months now. Fans believe that the actress’ fairly serious problems while filming also had some role to play since the Black Adam actress jokingly mentioned how she’d “never work for Netflix again” making those comments.

Both seasons of Sex/Life are available to view on Netflix.
