Aaron Pierre is no longer a part of Blade. Mahershala Ali-led MCU’s one of the most anticipated movies has been under several rewrites. Recently, the Old actor confirmed his exit from the 2025 movie.
Pierre joined Beef and Invincible star Steven Yeun who left MCU’s Thunderbolts. The actor was set to star in the film in an undisclosed role. It is hard to speculate what Marvel Studios is keeping on the table and what they are cooking with the Blade narrative. Multiple directors have helmed and left the project so far. With Pierre’s departure, it is confirmed that the project is still in early development.
Aaron Pierre Exits Blade
The reboot of Wesley Snipes’ Blade Trilogy is one of the most ambitious moves that the Marvel Studios has dared with utmost confidence. The announcement of the project starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role as the vampire slayer created an astounding splash and the buzz continued. However, the updates surrounding the project have not been so positive lately.
Foe and Brother actor Aaron Pierre was in the discussion for joining the project but his recent comment to Variety on the red carpet for the 55th NAACP Image Awards spills upsetting news for fans.
“Early on, there were conversations. As the project evolved, I’m no longer part of that — attached,” Pierre said.
Blade’s sluggish development process has also seen the ‘come and go’ of several directors and screenwriters. Bassam Tariq originally helmed the project with Stacy Osei-Kuffour writing the script but exited the project two months before production. Yann Demange later joined as a director with writer Michael Green. Per Variety, at least five writers have been attached to the project. So far, Marvel has only confirmed the casting of Ali.
Mahershala Ali On Blade Development
Amid the roaring buzz surrounding the slow development of Blade, Ali previously addressed the slow development of the project. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly in December 2023, the Leave the World Behind star assured that the movie is heading in the right direction. “We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you,” the actor said. “I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon,” he added.
“I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all that. So that’s the extent of what I can tell you.”
Marvel first announced the Blade reboot at Comic-Con 2019, the project is still in development after for years. Also, Marvel Studios is reportedly eyeing to contain the budget of the film under $100 million, contrary to their budget of ambitious projects.
Blade is slated for 7 November 2025 release.
