Although Zendaya had already gained enough fame through starring in TV shows like Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover, her breakthrough in the film industry by playing Michelle ‘MJ’ Jones in MCU’s Spider-Man movie series further boosted her already star-studded reputation. Not only this, but it also led her to her current boyfriend, Tom Holland, opposite whom she starred in the web-slinger’s film trilogy.
Because of the relationship she shares with Holland, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she chose him over all the other Spider-Mans when asked about her favorite. However, she was asked about her favorite Peter Parker portrayer, and while her answer ended on Holland, there might have been other possible options for her as well.
Zendaya’s Favorite Spider-Man Ain’t Who You Think It Is
Tom Holland and Zendaya first met on the sets of Spider-Man: Homecoming and the rest was history after their dating rumors got confirmed later on. So if she had to choose one favorite out of the three web slingers, most would expect it to be Holland. However, while her answer did end on him, it wasn’t before she made a cryptic statement that would leave most wondering.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast was asked some questions by kids. During that, one girl asked the Euphoria actress who her favorite Spider-Man was out of Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland, and Andrew Garfield. To this, she said:
“I’m not gonna get in trouble. I’m not gonna pick a favorite. But… [points at Tom Holland].”
Although her answer eventually landed on her boyfriend, her initial sly remark also brought about a whole new question as to who else could Zendaya be referring to. Out of all the possible options, one particularly stands out, and for a very valid reason: Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man. Why? Here’s our theory:
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, there’s a scene where, just like Emma Stone‘s Gwen Stacy falls to her death in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Zendaya’s MJ falls down from some scaffolding as well. However, unlike in his own movie, this time, Garfield’s Spider-Man jumps down and manages to save MJ.
Thus, for this very particular reason, it might be that the Shake It Up star’s other favorite Peter Parker might be Peter 3 aka Andrew Garfield, but that’s all just fan theory now since Zendaya already chose her beloved favorite.
Zendaya’s Take On Not Getting The Role Of Spider-Woman
Continuing in the interview, the rest of the cast was then asked several other questions by several young fans. Then, once again, came the Dune actress’ turn, who was then asked a very innocent question by a kid who said:
“MJ, are you mad that you’re not Spider-Woman?”
Unsurprisingly enough, Zendaya had the most witty yet genuine response ready for the question. She said:
“You know, I can’t say that I’m mad. If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that superheroing isn’t always that easy. So, I’m good.”
Turns out fans won’t be seeing their favorite MJ in any Spider-Woman role anytime soon!
