With Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy marked their sixth collaboration. Celebrating the biggest movie of Murphy’s career as a lead, the movie secured 13 Oscar nods. However, there is still a void in their collaboration and Murphy has not shied away from pouting about it.
Fans may believe that the unavoidable bond between Murphy and Nolan has been the longest and everlasting, of course, it is but the Irish actor still has a complaint. Murphy was opted out of the cast of one of Nolan’s sci-fi epics that redefined the space narrative and is considered one of the best since Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi epic 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Cillian Murphy In A Race For Collaboration With Christopher Nolan
As of now, Christopher Nolan has made a total of 12 movies, and Cillian Murphy stars in half of them. The actor initially wanted to play the role of Batman in Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy. However, both Nolan and Murphy failed to connect Batman with Murphy but it was the beginning of their bonding and Nolan knew that Murphy had to be in his films. The director assigned him the role of Dr. Jonathan Crane a.k.a Scarecrow instead.
Murphy appeared in a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! with his co-stars Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr where Kimmel and the Irish star discussed his collaboration with Nolan. “You’ve worked with Christopher Nolan on almost all of his movies right?” Kimmel asked the actor. “I think Michael Kane has the record. This is the sixth one with Chris,” Murphy said.
Of course, Sir Michael Caine has been a long-time collaborator of the director. Caine appeared in eight Nolan-directed movies. By the collaboration count, Caine is still ahead. But Murphy is not bowing down, he is still in the race for potential future movies from the director.
Cillian Murphy Was Sad After Christopher Nolan Opted Him Out of Interstellar Cast
Despite working together a long time, Nolan opted Murphy out of his 2014 movie Interstellar. Murphy was sad to a considerable amount as he still not getting over the idea of being a part of the sci-fi epic. Previously, the actor revealed that not being a part of the 2014 Nolan movie broke his heart. Recently, the actor was seen pouting before Kimmel and his Oppenheimer co-stars.
“I don’t mind actually. Because then it means I can go to the cinema and really enjoy it without looking at myself which I don’t like to do. So, I remember seeing Interstellar you know I’m not in that one. But um he, I really enjoyed it so you know I win or lose.”
Certainly, he might have enjoyed the movie watching in the theater but it is hard to believe that he is seemingly alright not being a part of it. At least, his poker face would agree with what fans are pointing out online. Still, for fans, his pout was super cute.
Oppenheimer is streaming on Peacock.
