In a recent interview with Games Radar+, Jack Black opened up about how he is preparing for the Minecraft movie by playing the game on his Xbox in his spare time. The Kung Fu Panda actor even joked that he might even be awarded an Oscar for his ‘extensive‘ research on the film. He said,

“Oh, you know I’m playing Minecraft all the time. Whenever I’m not filming I’m playing Minecraft because an actor prepares. I like to be in that Minecraft headspace. I like to know the rules, and I like to get little, like, things like, ‘Oh, in the game you pickaxe like this. You hit stuff like that,’ then I do that in the movie. I think the members of the Academy will appreciate my research later. I don’t want to jinx it, but I’m pretty sure I’m getting an Oscar for this one…”

Despite what he says in interviews, Jack Black is really working hard for his role in Minecraft.

“I’ve been harnessed a few times. It’s mostly the combat and learning these moves. And I’ve got a weapon, I’ll you that much. Danger, danger! [Laughs] But it’s really Jack Black, he’s the one who is doing the heavy lifting here. He’s doing some flying and having all techno-fire coming behind him.”

Danielle Brooks was also asked if the movie will be anything like the game and the actress revealed that the fans of the game will not be disappointed. She said,

“I don’t know how to play the game but I know the world and the movie is pretty magical. It’s so lifelike. I don’t know how much I can share, but I do know fans will not be disappointed with the world they’ve created. We obviously do some green screen, but we got all the things there.”

The production for Minecraft kicked off earlier this year in January in New Zealand. However, not a lot of details about the plot or premise of the movie have been disclosed from the side of the cast or Warner Bros Studios as of yet.

Minecraft is all set to be released in theatres on April 4, 2025.
