Harrison Ford has been a beloved part of the Star Wars franchise since the very start. Starring as the franchise’s leading hero, Han Solo, the actor has made several appearances in the space opera saga across time. Not only has his portrayal left a lasting impression on audiences, but his charismatic performance and iconic moments have solidified his place in the hearts of Star Wars fans.
Recently, a scene from The Force Awakens went viral on the internet, featuring the movie’s one of the many hilarious moments when Ford’s co-star caught him off-guard.
Harrison Ford Gave Star Wars: The Force Awakens Its Most Hilarious Moment
From his first appearance to his surprise return in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars, Harrison Ford‘s presence has been a constant source of excitement and nostalgia for fans of the series. His brilliant acting and improvisation have often resulted in some of the best scenes of all time. One scene in particular, from the blockbuster The Force Awakens, is also a result of improvisation that ended up becoming one of the best scenes of the movie.

Ford’s Han Solo shockingly returned in the sequel trilogy’s The Force Awakens. One thing leads to another and Chewie, Han, Rey, and Finn are leaving the Starkiller Base. Having rescued Rey, as soon as they enter the ship, Chewie hands Solo’s jacket back to him, which he had earlier thrown off. This resulted in the most bewildered reaction from Ford, who was genuinely shocked by his co-star’s improv.
Joonas Suotamo, the actor who played Chewbacca, later in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, remarked,
I’m pretty sure I improvised that. I gave the jacket to Han, and then J.J. thought about it before realizing, “Oh, yeah, he has to have the jacket since we’re going outside.” So, it was left in, and I was really happy about that… I’m really proud of that scene, and I’m so happy that you noticed that. It’s so comedic that Chewbacca is worrying about Han’s jacket.
Having been friends for over 40 years, this scene shows the rapport and care Han Solo and Chewie have for each other. Despite the improvisation and the ‘hilarious element’, this scene remains vital for Solo and Chewie’s amusing friendship over the years.
Harrison Ford Was Happy to Be Killed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Harrison Ford’s Han Solo has been a beloved member of the Star Wars saga and has reprised his role several times over his decades-long career. Having received immense fame and acclaim as Solo, and the role providing him a significant boost, Ford went on to become one of the best actors of all time thanks to his role in the franchise.
Ford’s Solo, however, met a tragic end in The Force Awakens, after Adam Driver‘s Kylo Ren brutally kills him. But surprisingly, Ford was neither shocked nor upset, for he had wanted Solo to die long before the movie finished him off. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ford remarked,
I argued for 30 years for this to happen right and finally, I wore him down. I thought Han Solo should die.
Over the years, the actor has made similar comments (see Den of Geek and THR) several times. Not bored or tired of playing him, Ford only wanted the best for his character. And the best was Han Solo sacrificing himself for some or other noble cause, providing gravitas to the narrative and adding to the depth of his character’s legacy.
While fans would disagree, having portrayed Han Solo for several years, Harrison Ford knows he made the right call.
