Known for his music and Grammy-winning hits, over the past few years, Drake has also earned the reputation of bringing somewhat bad luck to the sports stars he places his bets on. While it seemed ineffective in the case of the Kansas City Chiefs, whom the rapper bet $1.15 million on, Francis Ngannou does not seem to have the same luck as the football team.
The former UFC heavyweight champion was knocked out cold in just two rounds by his opponent Anthony Joshua in their recent dual, for which the God’s Plan singer bet $615,000 on Ngannou.
Drake Bet $615,000 on Francis Ngannou to Beat Anthony Joshua
The rapper-singer Drake made his pick in the Francis Ngannou vs. Anthony Joshua for their match in Saudi Arabia. Known for his penchant for betting large sums on sports events, he has placed a $615,000 bet on Ngannou’s victory.
This marked Ngannou’s second professional boxing bout, following his debut against Tyson Fury in October 2023. The 37-year-old rapper shared his six-figure bet on Instagram, with a receipt showing a potential payout of over a million dollars.
“Betting on a scary man,” he mentioned in the caption. And the infamous curse associated with the singer-rapper seems to have struck again after Ngannou was knocked out at the hands of former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Fans took to social media to discuss the same, as they are concerned for the next victim of the Drake’s curse. While many had speculated that Ngannou had a chance against Joshua before the match, their hopes came crashing down after Joshua knocked out Ngannou in the second round.
Fans React to Francis Ngannou’s Loss After Drake’s Bet
In the highly anticipated boxing match, Francis Ngannou suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Despite a promising start, Ngannou’s switch to southpaw left him vulnerable, leading to a decisive blow from Joshua.
It follows the former UFC heavyweight champion’s previous loss to Tyson Fury, marking a challenging start to his boxing career with a record of 0-2. The loss alongside Drake’s bet has led many to discuss how Ngannou has now fallen victim to Drake’s infamous curse.
While one fan shared, “I’m so sorry for Francis,” on X (Twitter), another added how the infamous curse remains undefeated. “Drake’s curse stays undefeated,” the fan shared their reaction following the match results were announced.
With Ngannou’s defeat, the One Dance singer has also lost $615,000, which he bet on the 37-year-old sports star. Many also stated how they love seeing the Grammy winner constantly lose millions on making such bets, saying, “Seeing Drake lose money is so much fun.”

Earlier, he had bet a hefty amount on Logan Paul and his brother Jake Paul to win by knockout in their matches against Dillon Danis and Tommy Fury, respectively. The singer lost both bets, followed by another loss of $700,000 in a bet on Sean Strickland in his match against Dricus du Plessis. The streak continues with Ngannou’s loss to Anthony Joshua.
