Reports suggest that Robert Downey Jr. is expected to return as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel could bring RDJ back as a variant of Tony Stark by using the Multiverse, even though the original Tony Stark of Earth-616/199999 sacrificed himself.
And now, Tom Hiddleston suggested that Robert Downey Jr. might return as Iron Man despite his sacrifice in the last Avengers film. It could involve alternate realities, time travel, or different storylines where Iron Man’s character could return.
Tom Hiddleston Hints at Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man Comeback Possible
During an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Friday, Tom Hiddleston spoke about the possibility of Robert Downey Jr returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Iron Man. The actor said:
“Speaking for myself, Loki’s died a few times. I’m still here. I don’t know that death is necessarily… I mean death is — death is up for grabs, as an existential question. That’s all I can give you.”
Here, Hiddleston joked that death isn’t the end for Loki since he’s died multiple times in the series, yet he’s still around. He hinted that death might not be the final chapter in their world.
So, there’s a possibility that Iron Man might return. The Loki star then talked about the Loki Season 2 finale and all the wild fan theories about its impact on the MCU ahead.
Loki’s Time-Slipping Ability Could Revive MCU Characters Like Iron Man
When the show host asked Hiddleston (on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon), “Since Loki knows how to time-slip now, can he go find someone like Tony Stark, aka Iron Man?,” The actor replied by making finger guns at Fallon:
“This guy. This is investigative journalism right here! I mean, time-slipping, technically gives Loki some interesting moves he can make.”
The Loki star continued:
“I suppose, yeah, he can move from past, present, future. I know that I can time-slip. I don’t know that other characters can time-slip.”
Throughout the second season of the Disney+ series, Loki started experiencing time slips — being transported between different points in time. By the finale, he had mastered the ability to control time at his will.
And this newfound ability of Loki to time-slip could bring back characters who have died in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If it happens, then the idea might revolve around the God of Stories in Secret Wars.
There’s a possibility that this god could rewrite the narrative and bring Iron Man back for a battle against Kang in the Secret Wars storyline. A clash between Kang the Conqueror and Iron Man could present an intriguing mix of moral and intellectual challenges.
