Taika Waititi’s prominence in Hollywood is growing and it’s almost impossible to deny the remarkable cinematic feat he has achieved within a short period of time. The evolution of Waititi, however, depended on the choices he made on the journey.
Speaking of choices, the actor/writer/director had very little choice to shy away from his MCU titles under his belt. The director was never a fan of Thor, as per his recent confession— somewhat brutal for the Marvel Studios. However, he has always been keen on Star Wars, another one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood.
Taika Waititi Gave a Positive Update For His Version of Star Wars
Taika Waititi has been a huge fan of Star Wars. Stylistically, the director blends his comedy into the characters’ traits changing the undertone of the cinematic layout. And that in particular, has been Waititi’s strengths. But while directing his two MCU titles in the Thor franchise, as he recently confessed, he had no particular interest in the projects and he never read any comics on Thor, only did those movies only for financial reasons. Also, he would not be involved in Thor 5 or other big-budget movies under the banner of huge studios, at least for a while. However, he’s very keen on working on Star Wars and the director confirmed that he has been developing a Star Wars project.
“Yeah, I’ve been developing that for a few years with them, but I think, you know, with any film but that one in particular, it’s something I’d really like to get right, so I don’t want to rush it. So, just going to let it bubble along on the side, it’s exciting,” Waititi said on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
It is indeed a positive update but fans have to wait for it to come to fruition. The director doesn’t want to rush it to hamper the depth and intrinsic values of the future project, at least not similar to the visible ‘in a hurry’ mode in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Taika Waititi Wants To Capture The Vintage Essence of Star Wars
Waititi must have put his thoughts in the papers and from that, he revealed that he is very keen on capturing the vintage essence of the franchise. As the director grew up watching the Satr Wars movies, he would follow the films in the franchise that had a lasting impact on him. Especially, the classics, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
“I want to capture that, you know, that joy and the entertainment of those early ones. Like ‘Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’ and all those ones, so I’m trying to figure that out and it’ll happen,” Waititi told Kelly Clarkson.
It would certainly take a while to see Waititi’s personal take on what he is cooking but right now he is on a promotional tour of his sports comedy Next Goal Wins, currently showing in theaters.
