The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have started strong in the entertainment industry, but currently, it seems to be standing on nothing less than the verge of a disaster. Thus, in order to save the franchise, they are willing to do anything and everything, and The Marvels seems to be one major step of that.
As per recent reports, Brie Larson’s upcoming sequel to her blockbuster Captain Marvel is expected to gross at least $140 million during its box office opening weekend globally. Although considerably less as compared to other films from the MCU, this movie might still be able to surpass the entire box office run of two films from the DCU under James Gunn.
The Marvels Tracked To Gross $140 Million At Global Box Office During its Opening Weekend
While Brie Larson‘s Captain Marvel had everything in its favor as it went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters by the MCU, the condition seems to be way too severe for the upcoming sequel to the film, The Marvels.
According to a tweet on X by @HollywoodHandle holding the numbers as per the Deadline, the upcoming superhero sequel is tracked to earn at least $140 million worldwide during its opening weekend at the box office.
‘THE MARVELS’ is tracking to earn $140M during its worldwide box office opening weekend.
In comparison, ‘ETERNALS’ ($160M) and ‘BLACK WIDOW’ ($148M).

The reason behind these low scores is cited to be the never-ending actor’s strike that is currently raging on as well as ‘Disney’s hands being tied when it comes to fully screaming this movie to the sky’, as Deadline puts it, however, a major part behind such low scores are the uninterested fans throwing all of their hate on the movie.
Although this is lower than two other films from the franchise–Eternals – $160 million, and Black Widow – $148 million–it could still be able to surpass the entire box office run of two films from the DCU under James Gunn: Blue Beetle and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
As per the recorded numbers, both of the above-mentioned DC films, which were released earlier this year, had performed terribly at the box office throughout their entire run. While Blue Beetle stands at $129 million worldwide on a production budget of $104 million, Shazam 2 went even lower as it grossed $133.8 million at the global box office against its budget of $125 million.
Judging from the numbers, Brie Larson’s The Marvels just might do wonders by exceeding everyone’s expectations of it and grossing more than these two box-office bombs.
Optimistic Fans Are Okay With The Marvels Earning Less Than 2 Other MCU Films
Even though The Marvels is earning a lot of hate and backlash from people from all around the world, numerous fans are still awaiting the film pretty eagerly. And most of these optimistic fans aren’t bothered with it earning less than Eternals and Black Widow on its opening weekend.
Commenting on the post by @HollywoodHandle, here’s what those positive Marvel fans have to say:
In comparison Eternals and Black Widow didn’t have that hate before their released*

That last trailer boost the numbers up a little. I feel like it has the potential to do a little better than eternals.

Considering the actors strike, I’d say this makes sense. Still unfortunate and I hope it does better than expected but the actors strike is really hurting movies lately

That’s a shame. If the movie is fun then that’s all that matters.

In comparison, “GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY” ($98M) and “WINTER SOLDIER” ($95M)

Considering the optimism of this other side of Marvel fans makes it seem that The Marvels could actually end up doing much better than what is expected of it. But this hope can only be confirmed once the movie finally makes its debut at the worldwide box office.
That being said, The Marvels is all set to hit the theatres on the 10th of November, 2023.
