Indiana Jones is making a comeback on consoles, and it might not be very long before we can grab the beloved adventurer’s whip and fedora once again. The title, developed by MachineGames alongside publisher Bethesda, was announced back in 2021 but has been shrouded in mystery since. Now, executive producer, Todd Howard, has given fans a brief but juicy update: In an interview with GQ published on Thursday, the revered game director disclosed the upcoming Indiana Jones game was “midway through” production. Let’s dig into what we know so far.

Indiana Jones Game Is Making Headway

After Indy’s reappearance in the latest movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, fans have been eager to hear more about the upcoming game based on the famed IP. Without going into too much detail, Todd Howard revealed in a recent interview with GQ UK’s Sam White that he is “midway through” executive producing the upcoming Indiana Jones game. The A-list director sure is keeping himself buried in work. Not only is he about to get the juggernaut Starfield out the door on September 6th, but he’s also directing The Elder Scrolls VI and producing the Fallout show.

This is obviously not keeping him from making headway in MachineGames’ Indiana Jones title, which is supposed to be a “bucket-list thing” for Howard. With 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark as his all-time favorite movie, Bethesda’s head of publishing, Pete Hines, even claimed Howard “might be the biggest Indiana Jones fan on the planet.” Knowing that the head behind the game is passionate about the project (and that it’s Todd Howard’s head), it’s safe to say the project is in very capable hands.

The game is being developed by MachineGames, the team that has already brought us the Wolfenstein games. According to Howard, “They’ve got the whole Nazi killing thing down,” and are “doing a really great job.” However, given the imminent release of Starfield, it makes sense that he didn’t give a timeline for the game or uncover any more details.

The Upcoming Indiana Jones Game Is Still Shrouded in Mystery

Not much is known about the upcoming Indiana Jones game.
Not much is known about the upcoming Indiana Jones game.

The game was originally announced more than two years ago, when Bethesda published a teaser trailer on Twitter. Apart from a bevy of Easter eggs shown in the short clip, not much has been revealed about the title.

Now that we know the development of the game is midway through completion, we will likely hear more about Indiana Jones’ next adventures soon. We do already know, however, that this will be a standalone title, meaning it won’t tie into Indy’s latest outing on the silver screen. The game is set to take place during the height of his career and will see him fight against the Nazis once again. While not confirmed, recent rumors suggest the game will be played both in third and first person.

It has been officially confirmed that Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game will be an Xbox exclusive. Even though it was initially set to launch on several platforms, Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda in 2021 quickly burst the bubble of the Indiana Jones game coming to PlayStation. So, once the game launches, it will be on Xbox Series X/S consoles and PC. And as with every Xbox first-party title, no matter how few there might be, it will also launch on Xbox Game Pass day and date.
