Invincible Season 2 Episode 6 decided to emulate some of Season 1 Episode 1, reminding the audience that this is not their grandfather’s superhero animated series. Out of all the shocking moments that came out of the season’s return was the brutal way in which the Guardians of the Globe were murdered, again, by the Lizard League of all people.

As Dupli-Kate, Rex Plode, and Shrinking Rae stay back to defend the planet, all of the GOTG’s heavy hitters (plus Atom Eve and Invincible) head to outer space to clean up the mess that Shapeshifter created by impersonating an American astronaut. Needless to say, when trouble strikes on Earth, once again the Guardians of the Globe are ruthlessly slaughtered by the Lizard League. While Rex all but survives the ordeal, Dupli-Kate and Shrinking Rae are not so lucky.

Dupli-Kate’s powers are that she can clone herself, which stems from a family curse. This curse is shared by her twin brother Multi-Paul, who has the same abilities as Kate. Cecil and the GDA might be running out of superheroes to put on the team, given that Atom Eve has declined to join the Guardians of the Globe, and The Immortal might be due for a vacation soon. Cecil might turn towards the villains that the heroes have apprehended to form a Task Force X-type deal, which could release Multi-paul from prison.

Multi-Paul leaving the prison might not be a great idea, given how he might react knowing about his sister’s death. he could blame Rex and try to take the hero out. Multi-Paul could be just as versatile with his powers as Kate and could pose a threat to the Guardians of the Galaxy if paired with the right criminals.

Shrinking Rae survived, which isn’t in the comics

While the Lizard League brutally put down the Guardians of the Globe, the fact that Shrinking Rae survived came as a surprise to long-time fans of the Invincible franchise. To begin with, Shrinking Rae is gender-bent in the show, as the hero that it refers to in the comics is actually a man named Shrinking Ray, and Komodo Dragon swiftly kills him.

However, after faking the death of the character in one of the most brutal ways possible, Shrinking Rae was able to survive her ordeal, something that was not a part of the official story in the comics. Robert Kirkman has hinted in multiple interviews that he would like to expand on certain things from the comics, allowing the show to have a neat and clean 7 to 8-season run if all goes right. Could this mean that the creator would like to add to the story while fleshing it out? Only time will tell.
