Robert Downey Jr. along with Ben Stiller and Jack Black starred in the drama-comedy Tropic Thunder. The movie also starred Tom Cruise as a classic narcissist money-loving producer. The movie earned praise from the audience for its comical storyline and the actors’ chemistry but failed to make its mark on the big screen, earning only about $195 million.

Nonetheless, the fans have loved the movie since long, hoping to get a sequel to see Crusie and Downey collaborate again. After Top Gun‘s box-office success, Cruise has been wanting to make a sequel to Tropic Thunder.  In an interview with ExtraTV, the Sherlock Holmes star was asked whether he would like to be a part of the sequel and replied,

“Um, look. All’s I’ll say is this. Tom Cruise and I have not done a project yet together. And that’s kind of a ‘yes,’ and then we’ll figure out what the title is.”

Much to the delight of fans Robert Downey Jr, does seem inclined to collaborate with Cruise again, but when this feat actually takes place it is hard to say.

While Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man met a tragic yet worthy end in Avengers Endgame, fans are not yet ready to say goodbye to Downey. His charismatic portrayal made him Marvel’s crown jewel for much of Phase 3 of the MCU. However, the role wasn’t his, to begin with.

Before the Dolittle star, his Tropic Thunder co-star Tom Cruise was the first choice to play the Genius Philanthropist Tony Stark. In the same interview, when Downey was asked when he would be coming back in Iron Man 4, he jokingly replied whether Tom Cruise wants to do the role. And as the interviewer replied that everyone else would love to have him back, he dodged the question saying,

“Okay! Tom, don’t take it! Don’t take it!“

Well, the chances of having Downey back as the Ironclad Superhero seem bleak in comparison to a Cruise-Downey collaboration.
