No certainty has been given, much less any details have been revealed, but exploring even more stories in Faerûn is tempting for anyone who has already ventured into the recent title. The only certainty that was given by the director is that an improvement to provide an even better development of characters who have even more freedom to do what they want is not out of the question.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Director May Have Hinted At A Possible DLC Coming Soon

Baldur's Gate 3 DLC is a tantalizing prospect.
Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC is a tantalizing prospect.

In an interview with the official Dungeons & Dragons channel, TTRPG on which the game is based, on YouTube (below), Swen Vincke, founder and CEO of Larian Studios, developer of the title, and also director of Baldur’s Gate 3, responds that the door to a downloadable content campaign aka DLC is not completely closed:

“Well, you could do different things in [the DLC] so it doesn’t have to be necessarily at the end of the game,” conceded Vincke. “There’s different ways that you can do that.”

Another interesting revelation made in the interview is that Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios is working not only on RPG support for PC, PlayStation 5 and future updates but also on another completely new game. So, even with 7 development teams around the world, perhaps a DLC is not an immediate priority, even because of the proximity of the game’s release date.

But returning to the subject of a possible Baldur’s Gate 3 update, Vincke said that to improve the game, “You’d need different stakes, different environments, different protagonists, and antagonists but it’s not undoable”. So if you’re not satisfied with the current version or just want to see an improvement, there’s still hope on the horizon.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is intricately based on the 5th edition of the TTRPG Dungeons & Dragons, but prevents player characters from going beyond level 12 in the game, whereas normally the highest level to reach is 20th. In the traditional form, it’s harder to manage a campaign with protagonists and, in turn, their threats, so powerful, possibly this being the reason for the limitation of levels in the videogame version.

At another time, in an interview given to PC Gamer, Swen himself explained that: “[Level 12-20] adventures require a different way of doing things, in terms of antagonists you’re going to have to deal with, which require a lot of development to do them properly”. Anyway, although it may scare those who work on the game, the possibility of playing Baldur’s Gate 3 from Level 13 to 20 is not 100% unrealistic.
