Over the past few years, many companies in the gaming industry have begun to acquire other gaming companies to fill their catalogues of games and to start creating a broader range of games that come from their studios. Now companies like Embracer Group are beginning to go through their collected franchises and choose whether or not to kill a franchise off as their catalogue of games is beginning to get too large, and they aren’t able to afford to keep those franchises available.

What are the game franchises that could get killed off by Embracer Group?

Is Embracer Group Getting Ready To Kill Off A Number Of Franchises

As all gamers know, there are thousands of game franchises out there that are either dead or are very close to being dead. That is because the game studios that own the rights to those game franchises aren’t willing to work on those franchises anymore, or they have lost touch with those franchises and have sadly let them slip down into a place where players no longer want to buy a game that is associated with the franchise in question.

This has become a relatively common situation over the past few years, and we have seen far too many gaming franchises get killed off over the years. Now companies like Embracer Group have been buying out development studios, and they are now looking at the game franchises that they have now bought and are figuring out what to keep and what to scrap.

During Embracer Group’s buying frenzy, they have acquired numerous titles that they are now choosing between, and some of those titles are The Lord Of The Rings, Tomb Raider, and Legacy Of Kain these are only a few of the game franchises they have bought. The question is which franchises will they keep and which will they scrap, as some of the franchises they have purchased are already considered dead, and some deserve a revival, but right now, it is down to their bottom line and what will both save and make money for the company as a whole.

What will happen to these game franchises if they get killed off?

Right now, Embracer Group is looking towards their bottom line, which is understandable as they are currently looking to reduce its CapEx to at least SEK 2.9 Billion and its overhead costs by SEK 0.8 Billion by the 2024/2025 FY whilst also attempting to lower their financial net debt to lower than SEK 8 Billion by the end of this financial year.

So to meet these targets, Embracer Group will have to start removing a lot of different projects to try and meet these goals in the coming months, as now they own a lot of different franchises that may still have projects in the works but may not make any money which is a valid reason to cancel those projects. Once those projects are cancelled, there is always a potential for them to return in the future, however unlikely that may be, but a franchise like The Lord Of The Rings and Tomb Raider will always be popular, so they will most likely stay, but lesser know franchises may take a hit.

What do you think about these choices being made at Embracer Group? Are you hoping for a revival in the franchises listed above? Let us know in the comments what you think!
