Is it Fair to be Judging Starfield Already?

We’re just under a month away from the release of Bethesda’s next huge original game, Starfield, and it’s got the entire gaming community flocked together in both anticipation and suspense. Many are asking themselves whether or not the game will even live up to the hype. It kind of feels like another Cyberpunk 2077 situation, but that feeling has gamers speculating how good the game will actually be.

Starfield has the potential to be the next-generation Skyrim, but even as skilled as Bethesda is at this kind of game, there’s always the slight possibility that the game may underperform, whether commercially or critically. Some have already started judging the game based on the footage we’ve seen thus far. And that has caused some discourse all over the gaming sphere.

Starfield May Be One of the Most Controversial Games Ever

With high-profile releases like this, it’s not too surprising that there will be some discourse over how the game will perform. Over on Reddit, user certified_rizzicist titled their post ‘No matter what, Starfield will be hated’. The post attracted a lot of attention, but it basically highlighted how many people will outright hate the game despite the fact that it isn’t even out yet. The user wrote:

I have little reason to believe Starfield will be bad, but I already know at launch and following for years, unconstructive criticism and just plain fabricated complaints will drown out the praise this game will get.

This seems like a pretty straightforward statement, but it actually goes pretty deep. The user pointed out two reasons for the inevitable Starfield hate. The first is a matter of high expectations. It seems like some have set an unfair standard in their minds for the game. Apparently one user wanted no quest markers in the game, despite the fact that the game is incredibly gigantic, and has a space setting.

But the second reason the user pointed out seems a bit more plausible, as it has to do with Bethesda as a company itself. Bethesda has certainly been at the heart of many controversies in the past, especially when it comes to Fallout 76. Some users on the thread are agreeing, while others think that the game will be a success for both Microsoft and Bethesda.

Will Starfield Actually Live Up to the Hype?

It Looks Gorgeous, But Will it Be Fun to Play? And Will it Live up to Fans’ Expectations?

The excitement for the game is through the roof. It certainly seems like the space RPG that many have been waiting for. The gameplay does look promising, but Bethesda’s promises are what are keeping the hype afloat. The game will apparently have over a thousand planets to explore. That’s quite a hefty amount, but that has got some asking themselves if these planets will be densely packed or just procedurally generated and bland.

It also seems like there is a huge emphasis on player choice. But in a game so massive, will the choices the player makes actually affect the outcome of the story? Or will the game just have simple and small changes to particular side quests? One thing is certain: At this point, rather than judge Starfield for what it isn’t, we should wait for the game to release and judge it for what it actually is. The game may actually live up to the hype, but if there are performance issues and bugs, it may just end up being another Cyberpunk 2077.
