Rocksteady Studios and Warner Brothers’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the action-adventure multiplayer title, is finally set to release on February 2, 2024, and while many players are excited to play the game, some also have doubts about it. Gamers are worried if the game will live up to their expectations and deliver the experience that the developer has promised.
The game has faced severe criticism and seen multiple delays since the announcement, which has prompted the players to reconsider their decisions to get the game, which makes one wonder if it is going to fail. Moreover, what can Rocksteady do to make things better and provide players with a unique gaming experience for the game to be a success?
Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Beyond Repair?
Rocksteady announced Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League almost four years ago with a trailer and revealed its plans for the live-service game. The players were excited that the popular developer was finally coming back from its long hiatus and that they would be able to play as the anti-heroes of Task Force X in the Arkhamverse and go head-to-head against the Justice League to save Metropolis.
The game follows the members of Task Force X, namely Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark, as they battle against Justice League superheroes such as Batman, Superman, The Flash, and Green Lantern, whose minds have been corrupted by Brainiac and they are hell-bent on destruction. There are also several other characters in the game.
However, the game has faced several hardships as it has been the subject of severe backlash, delays multiple times, gameplay mechanics, and more. The game was initially going to launch sometime in 2022, but then was delayed to May 2023 as the developer wanted more time to make the best game possible. The game was once again delayed for a substantial amount of time, and the release date of February 2, 2024, was set.
The main reasons behind the backlash were that there will be a battle pass for exclusive cosmetics and other items in the game, and players are required to be online and connected to the internet if they want to play the game both solo and in co-op. This did not sit well with the players, and they heavily criticized the developer.
This also led to many fans thinking that the game would be improved for a better gaming experience, but that might not be the case, as there have been reports that the game has only been polished to run smoothly and nothing more. The backlash and multiple delays have mostly killed the excitement among the players.
The main thing is that players were expecting something different from what the developers have shown so far and think that it does not have the potential to be a successful game.
But that’s not all, as even the plot of the game is under scrutiny. A recent leak revealed that Brainiac in the game is very different from the character in the comic books. Brainiac, as seen in the leaks, has a purple skin rather than the usual green skin as seen in the comics. Moreover, the decision to make Poison Ivy a child has also been met with criticism, and fans are puzzled about how the developer will make her “child” character work in the game that features Harley.
Rocksteady has enjoyed immense success with its Batman: Arkham games, and players were initially very excited about the game, but everything seen about the game has only deteriorated. It cannot be said for certain that the game might fail, but the developer will have to do something out of the ordinary to grab the attention of the players and make them stick with it for a while.
This is going to be something new for the studio, as it is considered one of the best in business, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Rocksteady.
