Is this the Cheapest You’ll get Starfield for?

Bethesda’s upcoming action RPG, Starfield, is due to release on PC and Xbox Series X/S on September 6th. But even though we’re still a month out from the game’s release, some retailers are already selling the game for a discounted price.

Hit, a UK-based online gaming retailer, is currently offering a discount for the new Bethesda title, allowing you to pre-order Starfield for a price of £52.85. That’s a 25% markdown from the original retail price of £69.99. This price may be the cheapest available for the game before it launches next month. The only caveat is that this deal is exclusive to those with a UK shipping address. However, this is a great discount to capitalize on if you can.

The Starfield Hype Train Pulls Into the Station

Starfield promises to be one of Bethesda’s most ambitious games, boasting over one thousand planets to explore, each with unique cities and landscapes. It’s also the company’s first original IP since The Elder Scrolls almost thirty years ago. It’s safe to say that a lot is riding on Starfield, and the hype is through the roof.

Director (and meme legend) Todd Howard has gone on record stating that the game is, more or less, “Skyrim in space,” which is enough of a draw for many people. Add that to the fact that Starfield is one of very few next-gen exclusive, Xbox-exclusive titles lined up for release thus far, and it’s hard not to want to know more.

The game’s freedom isn’t entirely in its open-world design, however. There are myriad character customization options, allowing the player to choose their appearance and their player’s role in the world. The player’s spaceship, weapons, and outposts are also customizable, which gives the impression that the game will be a very different experience for each player.

The game also includes a tiered quest system. Among the various quest types in the game are main quests, secondary quests (such as faction or NPC-specific quests), and “ambient” quests, which are more minor tasks spread throughout the game’s open world. This layering of different-priority quests was also accomplished with this year’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to great effect. If it can manage to be as free and open as that game, Starfield might land itself among the best open-world games of this console generation.

Different Ways to Play

Starfield is being released in a standard edition and the premium and Constellation editions.

If you decide to preorder Starfield, you’ll also get access to the Old Mars Skin Pack, which contains some in-game cosmetics. It’s a nice bonus to add to the prospective discount. It’s worth mentioning that the game is also a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, where the same preorder bonuses apply. If you want a physical copy, though, the 25% discount is your best bet before the game hits store shelves.

If you take the deal, however, you’ll miss out on some of the content in the special edition releasesThe premium edition and the Constellation Edition come with the Constellation Skin Pack and give access to the Shattered Space Story Expansion, which will likely not be released until 2024. That expansion will likely be available as DLC post-release, though. Hence, it is probably best to capitalize on Hit’s discount while you can.
