Blume, Craig, and McAdams spent a lot of time crafting the character so it stays true to the material in the novel. In April, McAdams appeared for an interview with Bustle and recalled,
“I was worried some days. ‘Is this too much? Is this distracting?’ I hated thinking about that. Why do I even care? But it’s hard not to!”
The actress felt self-conscious throughout the filming process. In the end, McAdams’ efforts paid off as her performance was widely praised. With a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.4 IMDb rating, the film managed to captivate the audience with its storytelling and faithful adaptation.
