Starting his career on television, Chris Hemsworth managed to become one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry after the massive success of Marvel’s The Avengers. Hemsworth is synonymous with his MCU role as Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, despite giving memorable portrayals in films like Extraction, Cabin in the Woods, Rush, and many more.
The actor’s career is full of smash-hit blockbuster films, that add to his stardom and massive fan following. However, there is one film that left a dent in his stellar acting career that too right after he catapulted himself into new heights of stardom. The film is none other than the 2012 film, Red Dawn, which is often called as the most meaningless remake in the history of Hollywood.
Chris Hemsworth Disappointed Fans With an Unnecessary Remake of 1984 Blockbuster
John Milius’ 1984 drama film, Red Dawn was a massive blockbuster as the film grossed $38.9 million at the domestic box office as per The Numbers. The film featured intense action scenes and a gripping battle sequence that kept the audience at the edge of their seats, making their hearts pound and kept them thinking, “What would happen in the next scene?”
The 1984 film was perfect in every aspect, as the cast and their compelling performance have made the film a timeless classic. However, in 2012, an unwanted remake of the film was made, which followed the events of what happened after the North Korean troops invaded the US and seized control over the city of Spokane, Washington.
The remake showcases Red Dawn, a group of young patriots on the frontlines after the invasion. The film features Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. While most films are criticized after it’s released, the 2012 remake met with backlash prior to its release.
Upon release, the remake was heavily criticized as it followed the plot of the original plot but changed the invading country. The 1984 film featured Russia as the invader, but in the remake, it was North Korea although they were supported by Russian forces. Furthermore, the film had a massive plothole, that is, it was never explained how the North Korean troops made it to the United States undetected.
The film was so disappointing that the film grossed only $48.1 million at the worldwide box office as per The Numbers. To add to the remake’s disappointment, fans called it one of the worst remakes to be ever made in r/movies, a subreddit that discusses exclusively films and movies.

Fans Were Disappointed At Chris Hemsworth Despite His Success With Marvel’s The Avengers
Chris Hemsworth was launched into success after his The Avengers hit the theatres in April 2012. The Avengers is Marvel’s first cinematic crossover film, featuring Hemsworth playing a vital role as the original Avenger, as he teams up with Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Hulk to stop Loki from conquering Earth.
The film marked the start of an era, featuring the Australian actor in the iconic role of Thor, where every Marvel fan became his die-hard fan for showcasing charisma, humor, muscle, and a God’s grandeur. The portrayal of the Norse God of Thunder left a lasting impact on the audience, where fans of the superhero franchise found him immensely faithful to the superhero featured in the comic books.
Needless to say, the film is a commercial as well as critical success as the film is 91% fresh on Tomatometer, and 91% rated on Audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office as per The Numbers.
However, the Extraction actor’s stardom was affected significantly as he decided to star in the 2012 remake. Hemsworth’s fan following was immensely affected as he was quite callous in choosing a film after his huge success with the MCU.
