Among some of the most desired and requested sequels in the gaming landscape, there’s no doubt that one game that sits high on many gamers’ wish lists is Fallout: New Vegas 2. Obsidian Entertainment’s approach with the IP is often said to be the most influential one in the post-apocalyptic RPG series.

Although we’ve been hearing rumors and possibilities of a sequel for ages, a few years ago, Todd Howard himself squashed all such possibilities. However, considering the massive influx the Fallout franchise is enjoying due to the success of the TV series, it’s time for Bethesda to finally give us a proper game after the disaster of Fallout 76.

Players Need Fallout: New Vegas 2 After The Disaster of Fallout 76

Bethesda needs to give us Fallout: New Vegas 2 | Steam

Fallout: New Vegas was released back in 2010 and was one of the only few projects by Bethesda outsourced to a third company, Obsidian Entertainment. It’s been years, but New Vegas is still considered one of the most superior Fallout entries for a variety of reasons. Many fans feel that the game captured the true essence and style of the franchise in a manner that Fallout 3 completely fumbled upon in multiple ways. The game still sits as overwhelmingly positive ratings on Steam and is a cult classic.

However, it seems like Bethesda doesn’t want to capitalize on the success of one of its best games and instead deliver us bug-infested Fallout 76. In an interview with the Guardian, Todd Howard revealed that the likelihood of Bethesda collaborating with a third-party studio for future entries in the Fallout series is unlikely.

Now that our company is so big, it’s always better to keep stuff internal … it becomes less likely, but I could never say never. I thought the Obsidian guys did a fabulous job.

It’s mind-boggling how Bethesda doesn’t want to deliver a sequel to a game that proved to be even more successful than what they ever delivered in the franchise.

The franchise now even has a live-action TV series that, unlike modern Fallout games by Bethesda, is based on the West Coast and takes more after New Vegas. While the TV series is an original story, almost entirely separate from Fallout games, it bears some resemblance to New Vegas with its aesthetic and setting that matches the wasteland of New Vegas.

The similarities with the TV show and the failure of recent Fallout games could represent an opportunity for Bethesda to revive New Vegas for a long-awaited sequel.

Why Bethesda Might Never Release Fallout: New Vegas 2

Reasons why Fallout New Vegas 2 might not happen | Steam

While a sequel to New Vegas will undoubtedly be welcomed by fans, there are major factors that could result in the sequel never happening. Some major contributing circumstances include Obsidian’s own project, Avowed, followed by The Outer Worlds 2.

After New Vegas, Obsidian has seemingly preferred to focus on its own original games and isn’t interested in contributing its efforts to outsourced projects. At the same time, Bethesda is currently busy handling tons of high-priority projects, including development on The Elder Scroll 6. and the next entry in the Fallout series.

Bethesda doesn’t have suitable or available studios or resources on hand to tackle a sequel for the Fallout: New Vegas. Given all these elements, the chances of a sequel ever seeing the light of day are far-fetched, and unless something drastic happens to change the current situation, fans have to accept that Fallout: New Vegas 2 might never happen.
