In the final battle of the story, Belmont is forced to battle with the forces of darkness and give it his all. Despite this, he made it through to the other side and survived. This happy ending was more than welcomed by fans. However, many might be surprised to know that this was not the original plan for the character.

Fates Were Unclear

The executive producer of Castlevania, Kevin Kolde, gave an interview with CBR, where he talked about the fates of all the characters. Specifically, he talked about Dracula, Lisa Tepes, and Trevor Belmont. Up until the producers received the last two scripts of the story, it would seem that the fate of these three characters was still hazy.

“There was a question, up until the last two scripts came in, as to how Trevor’s story would end and how the story would end with Dracula and Lisa. In the outline, it was unclear as Warren was going through writing Season 4 episodes,” Kolde told. “Those particular decisions came down to when he wrote those scripts in the moment, it could’ve went a couple ways.”

The reason for this was that the writer and creator of the show, Warren Ellis, was still writing the scripts and deciding the direction he wanted to take with them. Kolde revealed that Ellis had the tendency to make such big decisions in the moment, which meant that a lot was left speculative until the very end.

Trevor Belmont Almost Did Not Make It in the Castlevania Final

Kevin Kolde then added that he was happy with the direction that Warren Ellis took with all of the characters. He then revealed something very interesting about the character of Trevor Belmont, talking about how relieved he was that the writer decided against taking one major decision with Richard Armitage’s character.

“I’m thrilled with what he ultimately chose to do and chose to handle it. But I think there was consideration as to whether Trevor would make it out of the series but I’m glad that he did.”

Kolde revealed that the original plan for Belmont was that he would not make it out of the finale alive, passing away in a blaze of glory. The producer revealed that he was glad that such a direction was not taken.
