During an interview with BBC News, the Aquaman star revealed that she married Cruise right after finishing their film Days Of Thunder in 1990. She also said that she had been a very young lady at the time and was just starting to come up in the industry, which was a volatile time in history as Sexual Harassment was a common form of abuse that female actresses had to suffer. Thus, being married to someone as powerful as the Top Gun star was her protection from this sick trend in Hollywood. she said:
“I got married very young, but it definitely wasn’t power for me – it was protection. I married for love, but being married to an extremely powerful man kept me from being sexually harassed.”
Although their marriage couldn’t last as they both got divorced in 2001, they were a couple that people remember very fondly to this day.
