The hype for Dune 2 has been extensive, as fans have been extensively waiting for the film to release. The sci-fi film which has been directed by Dennis Villeneuve is considered to be a modern epic, and early reviews of the film forecast that the film would easily recover its insane production budget of $122 million. The sequel features a star-studded cast featuring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Christopher Walken, and many more.
While the cast of the film can’t get any more star-studded, Anya Taylor-Joy has joined the ensemble, but fans of Dune 2 were in the dark as they had no clue about her role in the film. As the film premiered in London on Thursday, all doubts were cleared as Taylor-Joy is going to play a major role in the upcoming film.
Anya-Taylor Joy is All Set to Play a Major Role in Dune 2
As Dune 2 premiered in London on Thursday, a rumor started to recirculate on the internet stating that Anya Taylor-Joy would be in the sequel. To support the rumors of her presence in the film, the Last Night in Soho actress was present at the premiere. Taylor-Joy made a surprising appearance at the London premiere, posing on the sand-duned red carpet in Leicester Square with her fashion-forward cast mates. It is believed that she will be the sister of Paul Atreides played by none other than Timothée Chalamet.
However, her presence in the film was confirmed when during an interview which was streamed live on Warner Bros.’ TikTok, the host asked her what it meant to be a part of the sci-fi franchise. The actress was on cloud nine and replied,
“This is a dream come true. The books are incredible, but with this cast and with Denis, it doesn’t get any better than that.”
However, this was not all as the Split actress offered a rave review of Dune 2, describing it as “one of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Genuinely, Denis has killed it.” Nevertheless, the film is definitely one of the biggest movies in 2024 that just keeps adding more big names in the film.
Dune 2 Might Dethrone Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer
Dune: Part Two might be the biggest film of the year because as per Deadline, the sequel is eyeing for an opening of over $65M domestically. The growth is humongous as the Dune 1 which opened at just $41M. However, the first film was affected by the pandemic and HBO streaming which resulted in the low numbers. Dune 2, on the other hand, has a fair chance as the film has gained immense hype, and fans of the franchise are excited to watch the sequel.
While these are just assumptions, the opening of the film can rise from $65 million to $70-80 million in the best-case scenario. Though Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer had an opening of $82.4 million, the swift rise in anticipation and early reviews could lead to the film crossing the historical drama film.
Dune: Part Two might not just surpass Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus in terms of opening, but in terms of overall earnings as well. The 2023 film which had a gross revenue of $959.9 million at the worldwide box office, could potentially be surpassed by the second installment of the film. Nevertheless, it is tempting to speculate on the success of the sequel and only time will reveal whether the sequel can surpass one of 2023’s highest-grossing films.
Dune 2 will premiere on the big screen on 1st March, 2024.
