Ryan Gosling‘s The Fall Guy unveils what it takes to make a big-budget film through Emily Blunt’s character, who is making a fictional blockbuster in the film. As a film about making a film, Gosling and director David Leitch wanted it to be real and authentic.

In an interview with Den of Geek, Gosling details how the film is a love letter to filmmaking in general. Gosling pointed out how making a film is a romantic endeavor and this made the love story between him and Blunt in the film become a prominent arc in the film. He said,

“It’s such a love letter to stunts, a love letter to action, a love letter to filmmaking! It’s a love letter to the crew. And that love is at the heart of it. So we felt that it had to be that way from a story perspective as well. It’s such a romantic endeavor, just to make a film in general. And that romance is at the core of all of it. Every time we reconnected to the love story, it just felt like it kept energizing the movie as it went forward.”

In addition to Gosling and Blunt, The Fall Guy stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, and Stephanie Hsu. The film will be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
