While the first game released on all platforms, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 by Ninja Theory was designated as an Xbox exclusive, The reason I say “was,”  even though the game is set to release in May 2024, is because numerous rumors suggest the game may break exclusivity and be available on PlayStation as well.

It was one of the first games revealed for the Xbox Series X, and fans of the first game have been waiting for years for the sequel. While it was probably intended to be a reason for people to buy the Xbox console, the title could be accessible on other platforms, much to the delight of fans.

The leak comes from the Infinite Podcast on Riskit4theBiskit’s YouTube channel. Close to the 1 hour and 40-minute mark during the talk, Riskit4theBiskit revealed that a Hellblade 2 PlayStation port was in the works. They state they have not seen any documentation supporting this idea, but they have confirmed this news with four different sources.

He goes on to say that Hellblade 2 and Starfield may be the two single-player games that will be moved to PlayStation. The mention of Starfield is surprising; even though Spencer had stated the game would not be part of the initial four ports, he never explicitly stated it would always remain exclusive. It should be noted that this is still a rumor and must be taken with a grain of salt.

Hellblade 2 is no doubt a big name to be coming to the PlayStation system. It could very well be that some people went the Xbox route just because Hellblade 2 would have been exclusive to the platform. Garuda Intruda echoes this sentiment, calling the move “ridiculous,” as companies should keep IPs like these exclusive to function as the carrot to lure people into the ecosystem.

Riskit4theBiskit says these two games might be the ones that are sent over to finalize if the porting project will be carried out. Garuda retorts by saying that if this is true, then they may as well not have an Xbox system, as breaking exclusivity for such big names defeats the purpose of purchasing the console.

Hellblade 2’s Rumor Could Turn the Tides Against Xbox

Is Xbox shooting itself in the foot by breaking exclusivity?
Is Xbox shooting itself in the foot by breaking exclusivity?

Xbox is in a bit of a slump right now. Aside from the numerous layoffs affecting the company and the gaming industry at large, the hardware sales have not been stellar, with PlayStation leading the race.

In such times, one would expect the Xbox to try and attract as many people into its ecosystem as possible. Exclusives are one of the leading ways for these companies to get people to invest in their hardware.

While Sony does port certain exclusives over to PC, aside from Helldivers 2, all of them are several years old before they get ported. To have an unreleased, once-exclusive title such as Hellblade 2 already have a port rumored is not a great sign for Xbox.
