Djimon Hounsou is quite a popular name in the film industry, as he has worked in a wide variety of films where he has left an indelible mark in all of his works. Though the actor has not done many main roles in his career, he surely knows how to make an impact as a side character. As a result, he has worked not only with Marvel but also with DC Studios, and now he has worked with Zack Snyder in Rebel Moon.
Snyder’s recent project is a massive hit, showcasing his talent and why he is considered to be one of the greatest sci-fi filmmakers of this generation. But Djimon Hounsou believes that the first film is nothing, and when fans will see the sequel to the first film, they will forget Star Wars, which is considered to be the best sci-fi film.
Djimon Hounsou’s Weighty Assertion For Rebel Moon 2
Zack Snyder has long been asserted as a great director, who has a keen understanding of action and sci-fi films, his newest venture, Rebel Moon clearly showcases his skills and beautifully avoids franchise fatigue. Rebel Moon has been loved by Snyder fans for its visuals and unique storytelling style, but Djimon Hounsou claims that the first film was nothing as watching the sequel would blow off their socks and even forget about the Star Wars franchise.
During an exclusive interview with Discussing Film, the Rebel Moon actor was asked how does he “go about navigating these genres?” Hounsou claimed that needs to understand people who are living in this fantasy world, and this is the reason Zack Snyder’s film stands apart from Star Wars.
“We’re dealing with people in this fantasy world who have to overcome tremendous trauma. We have all had to overcome our own demons. Everyone in the cast makes up the sort of fabric of the Imperium’s control over the universe. So, there was a tremendous need for redemption from each character. And that set the story apart from similar films like Star Wars and you name it.”
The interviewer added that they are looking forward to the sequel, to which Djimon Hounsou replied,
“You’re most welcome. Yeah, the second part [of Rebel Moon] is much more appealing. I mean, you will really get a better understanding of the whole cast.”
That was a bold claim from the actor, as Star Wars is considered to be the greatest sci-fi film of all time, this is not because of box office records only, as the series was full of well-written characters, and dialogues that fans love to watch even today. Since, Rebel Moon is a massive success, making such a bold claim displays Djimon Hounsou’s faith in Snyder’s filmmaking skills.
Expert Claims Rebel Moon Suffers From Zack Snyder’s Curse
After Zack Snyder was forced to make his exit from the DCEU, fans wondered where they would see his next project, and the question was soon put to rest as it was announced that his next project would be Rebel Moon and Netflix would fund this project.
While everyone believed that the film would be outstanding, it couldn’t make a lasting impact on the critics. Brandon Davis, a renowned critic and reviewer showcased his opinion in a tweet on X.
I wanted to love #RebelMoon and *parts* of it I did, especially the end.
It spends so much time assembling the team so getting to know the characters more in the extended cut will probably enhance it. It’s big on style but the ambitious story could’ve been better delivered. pic.twitter.com/e8LrzMaz3e

The brief review of the film has brought people to believe that this film too suffers from the Snyder Curse, where he focuses too much on the visual aspect in his films, but little to no effort in the narrative and storyline.
Rebel Moon can be streamed on Netflix.
