Amy Schumer was originally slated to star in the Barbie film long before Margot Robbie joined the project and hired Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach to write the screenplay. Back in 2016, Sony Pictures had the Barbie rights and hired Schumer to appear in a film with a screenplay and an original idea by Hilary Winston. Rewrites were planned by Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele, but the comic left the film just months later.

At the time of her exit from the movie, Schumer had told the media that the reason that prompted her decision was due to mere “scheduling conflicts”. Recently Amy Schumer appeared on Watch What Happens to Live With Andy Cohen where the comic revealed that the real reason behind her leaving the Barbie project back in 2016 was actually due to the “creative differences” because at the time the movie did not feel “feminist” and “cool”. Read her full quote below

“I think we said it was scheduling conflict, that’s what we said.But yeah, it really was just, like, creative differences. But you know what? There’s like a new team behind it, and it looks like it’s very feminist and cool. So, I will be seeing that movie.”

The actor,  thus admitted that the initial reason she had given the media was just a cover-up. The actress however revealed the new Margot Robbie looks pretty “awesome” and she cant wait to see it.

Amy Schumer revealed Sony Studios had a different approach for the 2016 Barbie movie

In an interview from a year ago, Schumer reflected on the split and explained further the reasons behind her decision to leave the original movie. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Schumer revealed that Sony Studios had a different approach to the Barbie film and did not want to make the film the way Schumer wanted. Referring to the studios, she said,

“definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in doing it.”

According to the publication, Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele worked on the script and saw Barbie as an inventor. The media outlet claimed that the studio wanted her creation to be a Jell-O-made high heel at the time and gave Schumer a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes to honor her performance. The actress said that she should have told the studios that they have “got the wrong gal”
