Funcom’s Dune: Awakening is fast approaching its official release as a story-focused trailer was released at Summer Game Fest. Funnily, social media users got pretty mad at the news that the game wiped out the central character from the gameplay. On one side, the gaming fans are buzzing with discussions about the game and its presentation of the world of Arrakis, while on the other, movie fans are oblivious to such a game coming out.

When it was announced that Paul Atreides would not be part of the Dune: Awakening universe, many fans believed that it was about the third Timothée Chalamet-led film. However, some gaming fans also thought the games should have stuck with Paul as the main character. But one fan on X shared that the different worlds and different stories make the IP more interesting.

Another gaming fan had to clarify for the movie fans that Dune: Awakening was not Denis Villeneuve‘s third film. One fan explained that the players probably get to create their own avatars and make their own choices in the game. Many fell in love with the games and revealed adding it to the Steam wishlist after watching the story-focused trailer. Some of the fan reactions read:

Earlier Dune games were designed based on real-time strategies that were adapted from the books and the movies. However, with Dune: Awakening, the developers promise the most immersive experience yet.

The gameplay will drop players as first-person in the desert world of Arrakis, where they get to choose whether to join the house Atreides or the Harkonnen or live as a quiet crafter or trader. There will be countless challenges as the player embarks on a dangerous journey in search of spice. Sandworms are just one of your biggest concerns during the gameplay.

As the game progresses, players get to use their resource management, strategic planning, and adaptation skills to go from mere survivors to desert masters. The promise from the developers about the game’s immersive experience has paid off well. On June 3, the official X page of Dune: Awakening announced the feat of 1 million wishlists on Steam.

The release date for Dune: Awakening has not been revealed. It will be released on PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
