During an interview with Evan Rachel Wood for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Millie Bobby Brown shared her preparation process for the audition in front of Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold. Brown revealed that she read for the role of Laura Kinney, also known as X-23, the young girl in the critically acclaimed film Logan.

Millie Bobby Brown Really Wanted The Part

Millie Bobby Brown expressed her excitement and determination as she prepared for the audition. She immersed herself in the role, diligently reading and practicing the lines in her room. During the audition, she felt like a true actor, fully engaged in the scene, which involved interacting with the legendary Hugh Jackman and having director James Mangold present in the room.

“I was like, ‘It’s going to be amazing, I’m going to really prepare,’ and I sat in my room reading the lines,” she said. “Honestly, for me, I felt so — I felt an actor, in the audition room, hitting Hugh Jackman, and James Mangold sitting right in front of me.”

While Millie Bobby Brown didn’t secure the role, she graciously acknowledged Dafne Keen, the 11-year-old who ultimately landed the part, was the perfect fit. Despite the outcome, Brown’s positive attitude and admiration for Keen’s success demonstrated her professionalism and support for her fellow actors. “I watched it; she was incredible,” Brown said. “It meant so much to me.”

Logan Wasn’t Millie Bobby Brown’s Worst Audition

During the interview, Millie Bobby Brown, renowned for her portrayal of Jane ‘Eleven’ Ives in the Netflix sci-fi drama Stranger Things, reminisced about her least successful audition experience – a Barbie commercial. 

“It was very awkward,” Brown recalled. “It was hard. I had to jump up and down. They gave me this, I don’t even know what it was, it was just this thing I had to hold and stand up and play pretend with this other girl.”

Irrespective of the role, Millie Bobby Brown, a talented English actress, revealed that she consistently auditions using an American accent. Reflecting on her approach, she admitted to occasionally wondering if this choice might create hesitation in the minds of casting directors. 

Rather than her actual name and resume, Millie Bobby Brown adopts a different approach when directors inquire about her background. In a seamless American accent, she confidently introduces herself with the lines, “Hi, I’m Millie. I’m 9 years old. I’ve been acting for about one year.
