Tom Holland’s portrayal of the web-slinger in the MCU is arguably one of the best iterations of the beloved comic book character, but being Spider-Man is by no means an easy feat, after all, not everyone can look so dashing while fighting crime. That, however, also meant vigorous training and intense workout sessions; all that lean muscle wasn’t going to build itself. And well, the aftermath was most definitely more appealing than the whole process, or at least one insufferable part of it.

Spidey’s EMS Training Involved A Lot of Pain (And Cheating)

Besides engaging in the regime intrinsic to an athletic physique, like lifting weights and scrupulously sticking to the perfect diet routine, Tom Holland also underwent Electro Muscle Stimulation or EMS training for his immaculate Spider-Man build. But getting ripped came at a price, and not an all too pleasant one at that because the bizarre duo of yoga and electrocution is far from gratifying.

During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Holland, 27, revealed the mildly fun but immensely agonizing experience he had during the EMS training, and how he also used to cheat in his sessions.

Tom Holland went through intense training for his Peter Parker physique

“You wear this sort of a black suit and they put these pads on you, and you basically do like, a yoga class while they electrocute you. I basically cheated but I did it with my best friend, and every time the trainer would go to the bathroom, one of us would crank up the machine that my friend was using and you genuinely can’t move, like, it makes every part of your body shake, and it’s awful. It’s a lot of fun and it works, but it really is, the worst thing I’ve ever done.”

Since it’s billed as a “low-impact high-intensity strength training,” it definitely does make a discernible difference (we all saw how buff Peter Parker looked on the big screens) but that doesn’t mean it’s any less painful. But hey, it’s not like it didn’t pay off, because Holland’s British charm isn’t the only thing the audience was swooning over, and it certainly wasn’t the only thing that had Mary Jane all smitten on the webhead. Speaking of which, how is Marvel’s favorite couple doing these days?

Tom Holland & Zendaya – 2 Years And Going Strong

Although the duo’s friendship had been marinating in romance rumors for years after they first appeared in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland and Zendaya bided their time before going public in 2021 and ever since then, they’ve become one of the most doted on couples in Hollywood.

The No Way Home stars, however, prefer to keep their relationship out of the spotlight as much as possible, keeping the PDA to a bare minimum and their love life far away from the prying eyes of social media.

But that doesn’t mean they’re not vocal about just how much they cherish each other. In a recent episode of the Smartless podcast, The Crowded Room star gushed about his beau, claiming that what their relationship has is “worth its weight in gold.” “I’m lucky that I have someone like Zendaya in my life,” Holland enthused.

In a separate interview with Buzzfeed last month, he quipped how he had no “rizz” whatsoever but it doesn’t really matter because he’s already “locked up” and “happy and in love.”
