Lindsay Lohan is an established personality in Hollywood thanks to her impeccable acting and singing skills. Her whole career is filled with glam as she gained stardom in her childhood way before gaining teen idol status through 2004’s Mean Girls. Her portfolio is eye-pleasing to many however her career would have been entirely different had she not missed out on the 2009 film, The Hangover.
At the time when the comedy flick stole audiences’ hearts, Lohan has already cemented herself among the top actresses in the industry. It was clear that her acting range was not something anyone could excel in, however, Bradley Cooper’s movie was one project she couldn’t add to her career. Initially, reports suggested that she turned down the opportunity which could have skyrocketed her career with the real reason getting debunked years later.
Reports Claimed That Lindsay Lohan Turned Down The Hangover Role
As per US Magazine, the acclaimed actress, Lindsay Lohan was approached to play Jade, a stripper and escort in the 2009 film, The Hangover. A source told the magazine that an agent convinced the film director, Todd Phillips to consider the former for the role. Eventually, he agreed to meet the personality however, the results were unexpected.
“The agent tried hard to get Phillips to consider her,” the magazine reported, “and when he finally agreed, Lindsay said she didn’t like the script!”
The role eventually went to Heather Graham. Given that she had an infamous reputation for being difficult to work with, many criticized her for jeopardizing a great opportunity that would have made her a part of the popular series. But the real reason is entirely different which the director revealed in a 2013 interview.
The Hangover Director Debunked the Real Reason Behind Lindsay Lohan Not Playing Jade
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips confirmed Lohan’s association with the project. However, the intense criticism she faced was not justifiable as he mentioned,
“I did meet with Lindsay Lohan a little bit [before casting Heather Graham], and we talked. Honestly, it felt like she ended up being too young for what we were talking about. People love to attack her for everything, like: ‘Ha, she didn’t see how great The Hangover was going to be. She turned it down.’ She didn’t turn it down. She loved the script, actually. It really was an age thing.”
Around the time of the movie, she was only 23 meanwhile Graham was in her late 30s. It seemed that the director wanted an older actress for the stripper role which could be the reason why she ended up not playing the role.
Meanwhile, the movie was a huge success which grossed over $467 million. The movie extended into two installments, which were both box-office hits but were not well received critically.
The Hangover series is available on Netflix.
