Snyder could not help but feel satisfied with his work on the movies. After his unexpected exit from Justice League in 2017 due to a family tragedy, the franchise faced a lot of controversy. Soon after, the release of the Snyder Cut was campaigned by fans.

Zack Snyder Talks About Director’s Cut Of His Netflix Project Rebel Moon

In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, filmmaker Zack Snyder talked about his upcoming Netflix film Rebel Moon, with the R-rated version more violent and would last an hour longer:

I’m super proud of the PG-13 version, the broader audience version, because I would say it really satisfies an awesome, timeless, mythological scope. What we’ve done with the other version is fun and subversive because an R-rated sci-fi movie at this scale shouldn’t exist.”

Snyder teased fans that it will be “very like sexy, violent, crazy, everything’s all at 11,” and he also confirmed that there will be a lot of changes between the two versions, with the R-rated one being more fleshed out:

It’s not just slightly different or a little bit more. There are big chunks of the movie that are different.”

Even though he created the R-rated version for an added spice, it does not mean the PG-13 is boring. Snyder revealed:

I think it’s really fun, and it’s clean and cool, but again, just the sort of weirdo darkness of the R-rated version if that was sort of my original thesis for what the movie could be, that’s what we did. That’s what we made in the R-rated version.”

The director shared that the plan to release a director’s cut was mapped out from the beginning. Indeed, the Netflix producers suggested the idea very early on in the process:

This was the first time I had ever been able to make a movie and plan for that. The cut was not me fighting with them like, ‘Okay, you won’t do what I want. Can I at least release it on DVD?’ It was us going together.”

Snyder and Netflix worked hand in hand to bring another visual masterpiece for both the big and small screen. Rebel Moon will have a limited theatrical release before its streaming debut.

Zack Snyder’s Chaotic Justice League Experience

Zack Snyder could not believe how easy it was to negotiate with Netflix to create his own director’s cut for Rebel Moon. It was unlike his messy experience with DC.

Fans would remember the director left Justice League to focus on his family and mental health, eventually passing on the torch to Joss Whedon. The movie ended up deviating from Snyder’s original vision, consequently suffering bad reviews, low audience scores, and disappointing box office gross.

Because of this disastrous movie experience, fans started to rally and urge Snyder to release his version of the Justice League. The Snyder Cut movement dominated social media platforms, and because of the strong public demand, the filmmaker was able to realize his own creative vision for the film.
